    Kia ora and welcome to Y9 Food Technology. 

    My name is Mrs Priest and I will be your teacher this year. I am excited to get to know you all. A little bit about myself...I was born in Germany, have 3 kids, have studied Food Technology, Health & Safety and Business and lastly Teaching at Massey University, have worked in the Food Industry for over a decade before starting to teach.

    This week will be about getting to know each other and the food room.

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 3 of Term 1!

    I bet you are looking forward to our practical: muffins. We will be making them on Thursday. On Tuesday we will be looking at Conversions and Flowcharts and how they are used.

    - I know who my team members are 

    - I can work in a team to complete the given recipe successfully

    - I can list the various shapes used for a flow chart 

    - I know the differences between the flowchart shapes

    - I can create a flowchart for making a cup of tea

    On Tuesday we will be learning some Muffin Science. We will look at some techniques to help us make the best muffins.

    This week we will be looking some more at marketing and how colours influence your emotions. And on Thursday, we will be making a Savoury Muffin.

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 7 of Term 1. Mrs Priest is sick this week. 

    On Tuesday you will be starting to design your poster. Using the marketing information given on GC, you can choose colours and images and words you might like to use for selling your muffins.

    On Thursday I have uploaded some muffin activities for you to do, such as a word search, a muffin crossword and a muffin reading.

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • an idea what my advertising poster will feature
    • attempted the crossword, word search and completed the muffin reading

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 8 of Term 1.

    On Tuesday we will be preparing to make the prototype muffin on Thursday (print recipe etc). I will also review your posters and we will be preparing for the written assessment (Muffin Skills and Technique review).

    On Thursday you will be making your prototype muffins.

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • made my prototype muffins
    • started creating an advertising poster
    • an understanding of the skills needed to make muffins

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 9 of Term 1! 

    On Tuesday we will be revising for the theory test. We will revise muffin science as well as revise how to create a flow chart. We will have the actual test on Tuesday 5th April during class time. If we have time on Tuesday, you can also research and plan on how to modify the muffin recipe.

    On Thursday you can practise your muffin recipe one more time if you like (I will talk to you on Tuesday about it).

    • participated and revised all required muffin skills and knowledge as well as flowchart knowledge
    • participated in the practical lesson

    Kia ora...and welcome back! I hope you had a nice break. This is Week 1 of Term 2.

    Just to let you know that we will be selling the food on EITHER Wednesday 11th May (Week 2) OR Wednesday 18th May (Week 3).

    The food preparation will happen after school on Wednesday and once ready, will be sold outside the gym. We aim to finish by 6pm at the very latest.
    Permission slips have been sent. Please talk with your group members and check what dates suit you best and let me know.

    You will have Thursday this week to trial your recipe again and finish your sales poster and complete any other outstanding work. From Week 2 I am planning on starting the new topic.

      Kia ora and welcome to Week 5 of Term 2.
      This week, on Tuesday, we are reviewing the answers of last week's worksheet. We are investigating how to keep food safe in the fridge and what food goes where. We will learn about spores and why they are bad in the food. We will watch a video to see if we can identify the mistakes that were made. And we will look at the Food Council ratings of local food businesses.

      On Thursday you will have a relief teacher and work will be added to GC!

      On Tuesday we will continue learning about Food Safety. I will recap the relief lessons you have had and start talking about the difference of Food Hygiene, Personal Hygiene and Kitchen Hygiene and give examples of each.

      On Thursday we will be making Marble cake.
