Please note that courses with charges are only available to students who have paid their compulsory fees and previous DEEP fees.

Discovery
At Mission Heights we want you to explore new areas of learning so that you may discover and grow your grain of Greatness. Each discovery course may only be selected once per year.
Arabic Language (ARAB3)

Learn the basics of the Arabic language in a fun and supportive environment, including simple greetings, common words, and everyday phrases, while also exploring aspects of Arabic culture.

Beginners Keyboard & Piano (BKEY3)

Discovery for those that haven't played keyboard before, this deep goes over the basics of playing keyboard. You will learn to read and play music on the keyboard as well as chords and songs.

Carrom Board Game (CARR3)

Explore the traditional board game of Carrom, which has cultural roots in South Asia and is played and enjoyed in many countries around the world. Students will develop precision, strategy, and hand-eye coordination while learning the rules, techniques, and tactics through friendly and competitive play.

Coding with Code.org (CODE3)

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of computer science using Code.org, building skills in problem-solving, logic, and computational thinking through interactive, block-based and text-based coding activities.

Disney Appreciation (DISN3)

Explore the timeless stories, unforgettable characters, and the enduring magic that has captivated generations. Whether you're a lifelong fan or just beginning your Disney journey, this class is sure to spark your imagination and leave you feeling enchanted.

Garden to Table (GARD3)

This DEEP course will teach you the essential skills of gardening, from planting seeds to harvesting your own delicious vegetables. You will get to select vegetables of your choice, plant them, and take them home to eat!

Let's Travel! (TRVL3)

Dreaming of far-off lands? Embark on a virtual journey around the globe in this DEEP. Explore diverse cultures, uncover hidden gems, and navigate the world's wonders! We'll delve into the fascinating geography of different regions, learn essential travel

Mahjong (MAMH3)

In this DEEP, you will learn how to play mahjong, one of Chinese people’s favourite pastimes. You will learn the basic strategies on how to play mahjong through attacking and defending from other players and have fun playing against each other.

Scientific Testing - Year 7/8 (SCTJ3)

If you are a Year 7 or 8 science enthusiast and like testing experiments to see if they work and like modifying, then this is for you.

Scrabble and Word Games (SCRM3)

Join this DEEP and become a word game champion! Learn strategies, build vocabulary, and sharpen your mind – all in a fun, social setting. Beginners welcome, all you need is a love of words and a thirst for friendly competition!

Technical Drawing and Design (TDES3)

This course introduces students to the fundamentals of technical drawing Learn how to create accurate and detailed designs for architecture, engineering, and product development. Perfect for aspiring designers, architects, and engineers who want to develop the skills needed to bring their ideas to life.

Wellbeing - Jigsaws- Monday (WELL3)

For students that need a quiet space.

Take your chess skills to the next level in Advanced Chess DEEP. Perfect for players who have mastered the basics. Whether you're preparing for tournaments to represent MHJC, or just looking to enhance your strategic thinking, this course will help you become a formidable player on the board.

Baking (BAKM3)

There is a charge of $35 for this course.
Do you have a sweet tooth and love to bake? Enrol in baking and learn how to make delicious cookies and cakes. Sweet treats and good eats in the kitchen! Payment for this class needs to be made before class starts. As an outcome, you will be able to take recipes home to make for your family.

Comic Book Creations (COMI3)

Do you read comics? Learn how to tell a story through graphic illustrations and learn how to draw by.

Fifa World Cup Studies (FIFA3)

FIFA World Cup 2026 is happening this year! Let's explore the world’s biggest sporting event and discover how the FIFA World Cup brings nations together through football. You will be learning about the history of the tournament, iconic teams and players, memorable matches, host countries, and cultural impact of the FWC.

Music History Appreciation (MHAP3)

Ever wondered why your favourite songs sound the way they do? Take a musical journey from the Classical eras straight into the 21st century! We’ll explore how technology, video games, films, and pop culture have shaped the music world. You’ll discover how music reflects society, learn to analyse different styles with an open mind, and ultimately present the history of your own favourite tracks.

Pencil Sketching (SKET3)

Do you like sketching? Interested in learning how to create new drawings with just pencil? Come join this DEEP.

The UFO Myth (UFOM3)

This class will examine the myth of unidentified flying objects using a critical thinking lens.

Sports
It is important that you consider all 4 Cornerstones when designing your personalised DEEP learning programme. Please make your selections from the list below remembering that you can only select up to two sports courses per term.
Advanced Running (ARUN3)

This is open to capable students who are wanting to improve their distance running and overall fitness. You need to be able to run 2km in order to select this DEEP. Finally, you need the internal motivation to develop a personalised distance running goal and you will then spend the term working towards achieving this.

Girls Hockey (HOCK3)

This DEEP is for girls who are playing for the school hockey team

Juggling and Coordination Skills (JUGG3)

Challenge yourself while developing coordination, balance, rhythm, and teamwork through a variety of engaging activities. Learn skills such as juggling, group skipping, and other movement-based challenges that build confidence, perseverance, and collaboration in a fun and supportive environment.

Junior HOCKEY (JHOC3)

This is for year 7/8 who would like to strengthen their hockey skills or learn the basics

Mountain Biking (MBIK3)

This is a pre-selected DEEP for those that have trialled Mr. Gardi

Year 7 Boys Basketball (BBSK3)

This is for year 7 boys who want to develop their skills in basketball. Open to everyone.

Discovery
At Mission Heights we want you to explore new areas of learning so that you may discover and grow your grain of Greatness. Each discovery course may only be selected once per year.
Beginners German (BGER3)

Learn the fundamentals of the German language in a fun and supportive environment.

Beginners Japanese (BJAP3)

There is a charge of $10 for this course.
This beginner-level class introduces basic hiragana and katakana, along with simple introductions, numbers, and everyday greetings. Students will also explore Japanese culture through hands-on activities such as origami, calligraphy, and trying Japanese snacks.

Beginners Korean (BKOR3)

Unlock the world of K-Pop, K-dramas, and Korean culture with our Beginner's Korean course! Learn the basics of Hangul (the Korean alphabet), master essential greetings and phrases, and build a foundation for conversation. No prior experience needed! This interactive course will have you saying ""안녕하세요!"" (Hello!) in no time.

Beginners Sewing (SEW33)

There is a charge of $10 for this course.
This beginner sewing course introduces students to the basics of hand and machine sewing through simple, hands-on projects. Students will develop patience, creativity, and practical skills while learning to create their own small textile pieces.

Diamond Painting (DPAT3)

There is a charge of $15 for this course.
A mix between paint by numbers and cross stitch, diamond painting has emerged in the last few years as a way to create 'masterpieces' by following a printed canvas and placing beads. This is a quiet, independent and reflective craft, where accuracy and organisation will lead to success. There is a $15 charge for the kit.

Hauora Club (HCLU3)

Let's expand your knowledge in Hauora by learning about physical, mental, emotional, and social wellbeing through fun activities, games, and discussions. You will explore tools and develop skills to support their overall hauora and wellbeing. This DEEP crosses over with your health subject!

Healthy Living- Tuesday (HEAL3)

Try out a new change in lifestyle through healthy eating, exercise and helpful life skills.

Learn to Perform Magic! (MAGI3)

Have you ever been amazed by a magician's sleight of hand? Now's your chance to learn the secrets! This exciting course will teach you the fundamentals of magic, from simple card tricks to mind-blowing illusions. Develop your dexterity, creativity, and stage presence as you learn to perform captivating magic for your friends and family.

Paper Quilling (PQUI3)

There is a charge of $10 for this course.
Quilling is an art form that involves the use of strips of paper that are rolled, shaped, and glued together to create decorative designs. The paper is rolled, looped, curled, twisted, and otherwise manipulated to create shapes that make up designs to decorate greetings cards, pictures, boxes, eggs, and to make models, jewelry, mobiles, etc. Come along and join this DEEP session to learn more about this ART form.

Pencil Sketching (PSKT3)

Do you like sketching? Interested in learning how to create new drawings with just pencil. Come join this DEEP.

Website Development (WEBD3)

Would you like to develop the art of creating your own website? Then this DEEP is for you.

There is a charge of $6 for this course.
Allows students to gain science badges. There is a cost of $6 per badge +pp. An opportunity for enrichment of sciences in the real world. They will need to be adept at communicating in Science- suits gifted learners.

For those of you who love reading, come and explore the world of books. Discover new books and find some new favourites through this DEEP.

Clay Creations (CLAY3)

There is a charge of $10 for this course.
Learn how to design, shape, and decorate your own unique clay creations while exploring fun sculpting techniques and expressing your creativity.

Eco Warrior (ECOW3)

Are you concerned about climate change and our environment? Would you like to learn about protecting our planet and becoming a change maker and making a positive difference to our school, community, city, country and planet? In this DEEP we will look at recycling, pest control, plant protection and learning about positive ways to make a difference to where we live. You will have the opportunity to be empowered to create ideas to make a positive change. This DEEP will also involve the current Enviro Council students and if you are passionate and contribute to this DEEP you will have an opportunity to join this School Council. This DEEP may involve some small field trips. We need a dedicated team to move us in the right direction. Please only apply if you think this DEEP suits your passion for the environment.

Sports

Advanced Basketball (ABSK3)

This is for students with well developed basketball skills, who have played competitive basketball for a school or club before. Students who intend to participate in Year 9/10 College Sport league may benefit from the extra skills training this course provides.

Girls Sports Fruit Salad (SFSG3)

Are you a keen sports and games player? This DEEP will focus on recreation games and sports, looking into a new sport every week! this is for girls only!

Junior Boys Futsal (BFUT3)

For boys of all ability levels that would like to play futsal. Join in and potentially get selected to represent MHJC in this sport.

Martial Arts and Self Defence (MASD3)

There is a charge of $10 for this course.
In this DEEP you will learn the skills and art of Self Defence through Martial Arts.

Table Tennis (TTEN3)

For those new to table tennis or experienced who would like to play socially

This DEEP is for experienced runners who would like to improve their short distance running skills and learn advanced technique.

Discovery

Beginners Guitar (GUIT3)

This DEEP is for students who would like to learn to play guitar. You can also join the DEEP if you are at the early stages of playing the instrument.

Character Design (CDES3)

Learn to create character designs for various purposes, from game development to animation. The process generally involves using Inkscape vector graphics editor to utilise basic shapes, layers, and the node tool to build and refine characters, often starting with a simple base design that is then expanded upon. You must have a device that works on mac or windows operating system and strictly no chromebooks or tablets as Inkscape doesn't work well on these devices .

Conservation of Nature (CONS3)

Explore the importance of protecting our natural world and learn about ecosystems, biodiversity, conservation, and sustainability. You will investigate environmental challenges and discover ways individuals and communities can help preserve native plants, animals, and habitats for future generations.

Try out a new change in lifestyle through healthy eating, exercise and helpful life skills.

Mahjong (MAMH3)

In this DEEP, you will learn how to play mahjong, one of Chinese people’s favourite pastimes. You will learn the basic strategies on how to play mahjong through attacking and defending from other players and have fun playing against each other.

Mindful Drawing (MDRA3)

Doodles and patterns is a low-pressure form of drawing that lets your mind wander while your hand creates. Whether it’s squiggles, shapes, or quick sketches, doodling can boost creativity, help you process thoughts, and even improve focus. It’s a playful, expressive outlet that turns idle moments into tiny bursts of imagination.

Mysterious Monsters (MYMO3)

This course will explore this history and psychology behind sightings of mysterious creatures around the world, from Bigfoot and Mothman to the Loch Ness Monster. New Zealand also has has its fair share of mystery creatures from the patupaiarehe (tiny fairy beings from Maori folklore) to sightings of the ‘Coromandel Man’ (New Zealand’s Bigfoot), big cat reports and sightings of giant alligators in the Waikato River during the latter 1800s. What evidence is there to support the existence of these mystery creatures. THIS IS A COURSE IN CRITICAL THINKING AND RULES OF EVIDENCE. It is not a course in why these creatures exist - instead it asks the question: 'Why do so many people believe in monsters in the absence of compelling scientific evidence?

Online Chess (OCHE3)

Online Chess DEEP introduces you to the exciting world of online chess. Learn the fundamentals of the game, develop strategies, and challenge players from around the world. Improve your critical thinking, problem-solving, and strategic planning skills all while having fun! This course is perfect for beginners and those looking to sharpen their chess skills online.

Origami (ORIG3)

Do you like getting creative with your hands? If so, come to this DEEP and learn how to make lanterns, origami, paper sculpturing, kites, and so on.

Pencil Sketching (PSKH3)

Do you like sketching? Interested in learning how to create new drawings with just pencil. Come join this DEEP.

STOP Motion Animation (STOP3)

Are you interested in animation? Through this course you will be using the Stop motion program to create animation movies. You will be required by the teacher to use your phones or other relevant devices.

Sudoku (SUDO3)

Ready to give your brain a workout? This DEEP is packed with engaging challenges designed to boost your logic and problem-solving skills. Complete Sudoku puzzles and other mathematics puzzles to improve your number sense, and discover the joy of cracking complex problems.

Trivia (TRIV3)

Come along to Trivia DEEP to test out your general knowledge and put yourself up against others! Learn trivia from around our world and through time.

This DEEP would be designed for Year 7 and 8 students who are interested in developing their confidence, leadership capabilities, and ability to work effectively with others.

Financial Literacy (FLIT3)

Develop financial literacy such as budgeting, investments etc through this DEEP.

Pasifika Performance Group (PPER3)

Learn the foundations of Pasifika performance through song, dance, and cultural expression while building confidence and connection with others.

Tournament of Minds (TOFM3)

Love solving problems, thinking creatively, expressing yourself, and working as part of a team? Tournament of Minds (TOM) is an Enrichment DEEP opportunity for selected GATE learners. Students work collaboratively to tackle real-world, open-ended challenges in The Arts, STEM, Language Literature, or Social Sciences. Through a weekly DEEP session and Wednesday after-school prep/training sessions in Lower Forest, students will develop creative problem-solving, teamwork, enterprise, critical thinking, and creative expression. TOM encourages inquiry, innovation, risk-taking, and divergent thinking while fostering confidence, collaboration, and a love of learning. It is a chance to challenge yourself, develop new skills, and have fun competing alongside like-minded learners from other schools!

Writing for Competition (WRIT3)

This for year 9 and 10 students. Challenge yourself to take your writing to the next level by developing creative, persuasive, and competition-style writing skills. Whether you are preparing to enter writing competitions or simply want to become a stronger and more confident writer, this course will help you refine your ideas, craft engaging pieces, and enhance your overall literacy skills.

Bhangra and Bollywood Beats (Dance) (BOLD3)

Feel the energy and experience the vibrant rhythms of India! This dance DEEP will immerse you in the dynamic styles of Bhangra and Bollywood. Learn the energetic moves of Bhangra, filled with powerful beats and joyful expressions, and the expressive, story-telling choreography of Bollywood. Develop your coordination, rhythm, and confidence while exploring the rich cultural heritage of Indian dance. Whether you're a seasoned dancer or a complete beginner, this DEEP is perfect for anyone who wants to have fun, get active, and experience the infectious joy of Bhangra and Bollywood!
