  • COAST TECHNOLOGY TERM 4

    Y8 COAST TECHNOLOGY

Welcome to Technology this term.  Your teachers this year are Mr Taha and Mrs Hewlett.

We will be building on what you designed to make as part of your Y7 Inquiry last year.

For the first 2 weeks we will work with you to complete your planning. You will get time in class to recap the work you did last year and record this in a planning journal. The planning is your assessment for this term.

We will then work with groups of you to make what you designed last year in the tech rooms.

Remember that we will need to order in materials and even purchase some equipment/tools so you need to be talking to your teacher about this by the end of week 1 so it can be order for you.

  • WEEKS 6- 8

    FELT CHRISTMAS TREES

HOW TO MAKE THE FELT CHRISTMAS TREE

    1. Learn to sew using the sewing machine. Zig Zag and straight stitching.

    2. Measure out on paper your tree shape. 10cm wide x 15cm high. Cut 11cm wide and 16 high.

Cut out paper pattern. Pin onto felt and cut 2 green pieces out.

If you want to stitch on decorations you need to do this before No 3 as it makes it difficult to stitch using the machine if you have decorations on - they get stuck.

    3. Stitch around the edge of the tree pieces - with zig zag or straight stitching. Start at the base of the tree 2 cm each side of the middle point = 4 cm left open at the bottom of the tree - stuff with stuffing - sit on stick- seal up with hot glue.

    4.  Decorate the tree - use hot glue gun.

If you want to stitch on decorations you need to do this before No 3 - easiest method is to stitch/ stuff/ decorate / hot glue onto stick and seal up.

Below is a picture of a tree made with different fabric and decorations but it is very similar to what we are making.

  • CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATIONS

    CHRISTMAS TREE DECORATIONS

Use felt to create your own set of Christmas Tree decorations.

    1. Find patterns online -create paper patterns and then cut out 2 pieces the same in felt.

    2. Decorate.

    3. Add a loop of ribbon at the top before you start to glue the 2 main pieces together.

Tips- use less glue - too much makes it look sticky and messy.
