Week 7 15th March to 21st March
Section outline
-
EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:
- We are EXPLORING. to investigate drawing statistics as part of the water safety context in PE.
- We are EXPLORING...to collect data, calculate different averages and display the data using appropriate graphs
- We are EXPLORING...PPDAC cycle for our investigation
Kia ora...Week 7 Term 1
Learning Area: Statistics
Curriculum Level
S4-1 Plan and conduct investigations using the statistical enquiry cycle:
A determining appropriate variables and data collection methods
B gathering, sorting and displaying multivariate category, measurement, and time-series data to detect patterns, variations, relationships, and trends
C comparing distributions visually
D communicating findings, using appropriate displays.S5-1 Plan and conduct surveys and experiments using the statistical enquiry cycle:
S5-1
A Determining appropriate variables and measures
B considering sources of variation
C gathering and cleaning data
D using multiple displays, and re-categorising data to find patterns, variations, relationships, and trends in multivariate data sets
C comparing sample distributions visually, using measures of centre, spread, and proportion
F presenting a report of findings.
S5-2
Evaluate statistical investigations or probability activities undertaken by others, including data collection methods, choice of measures, and validity of findingsLearning intention:

Success Criteria
understand the difference between numerical ( Quantitative) and categorical data and continues variables
read data tables using numerical and categorical data and record the list of selected data
draw graphs such as bar, column, pie, line, stem and leaf and dot plot
Recognise the shapes of the graphs to describe the data and compare the distribution
Calculate mean, mode, median, range, interquartile and interquartile
investigate bivariate and multivariate data
discuss scatter plots using TASGU
draw box and whisket graphs
infer and justify further investigation based on the current investigation
Activities:
- Group three and two continue on box whisker plots.
- Group One with Teacher.
