The wooden cage will need to be heated in boiling water for approximately 10 minutes. The reason for this is to saturate the wood with water which will expel the oxygen and air and replace it with water. The hot water has the effect of softening the wood and making it more flexible. This technique has been used by boat builders for centuries to bend and manipulate the to the shape required.
