Week 2 Notes (for exercise book)

1. Korean words follow a CVCV….pattern. (English is ok with consonant clusters eg.CCCVCV).

2. The word ‘strike’ is 1 syllable in English but 5 syllables in Korean si-ti-ra-i-ki.

3. In Korean one letter does not a syllable make. That is, must have at least two letters to make a syllable/sound.

4. When two vowels are combined they are called dipthongs. In Korean these dipthongs (the angle vowels) are created when  a flat singular vowel is added to a tall singular vowel. This is done in accordance with the Vowel Harmony Principle.

6. Vowel Harmony Principle, A bright vowel and a dark vowel cannot be combined together’.
