Assessment Overview

This term our context is ‘Effective Systems for Sustainable Living’’. In English, we learnt:

  • note-taking methods - mind map and outline method

  • to structure paragraphs using PEEL / TEXAS

  • some persuasive techniques

  • viewed and analysed speeches fit for a particular purpose and audience. 


This assessment activity focuses on the construction and delivery of an oral presentation. The subject of your oral presentation could be an issue of particular personal interest from the whanau context of ‘Effective Systems for Sustainable Living’. You are required to use your knowledge and skills of research, planning, written and  verbal language to write and deliver a speech.

With reference to our context, write and present a speech on a topic of your interest. 


In your preparation you should focus on:

● elements of your subject that would be of interest to your target audience.

● delivering a well structured and prepared speech that would capture the attention of your target audience,

● effective use of relevant evidence and appropriate oral language features.


You are required to construct and deliver an oral presentation of about 2:30 to 3 minutes.
