Year 8 Maths Assessment 2 - Financial Capabilities (Planning & Budgeting) - Coast 2020

Completion requirements
Opened: Monday, 27 July 2020, 12:00 AM

Investigation Context: Ultimate Survivor - Financial Capabilities

Pre assessment: You are the Manager of East Auckland Youth Group. In the Term 3 school break, you are taking the group for a vacation to Wellington. The youth group organisation has given you $2000 to spend on ten students and 2 adults. Each student is paying $50 on top of $2000. It is a 4 day trip. The Director of East Auckland Youth Group has made you in charge of planning the vacation and making bookings. Plan a budget for this trip. What important information do you need to consider for this trip?

Problem: Having spent some time and effort planning and researching, you realise this trip is merely impossible; YOU DON’T HAVE ENOUGH MONEY. Your students are watching you; excitement and hope hovering in their eyes. You look towards them and say, “WE WILL GO.”

Assessment: MAKE IT HAPPEN. How will you do this? Plan and draft a budget.

Requirements:

  • Find a solution to the problem.

  • Use google sheets to draft a budget.

  • Keep a record of full calculations of your income and expenses.

  • This is a collaborative investigation task - prior thinking, research and note taking can be done individually at your own time but the actual planning and budgeting MUST be done in class in a collaborative setting.

  • COLLABORATION = Shared responsibility + Clear communication + Commitment + Peer support

  • Keep an online log to record individual responsibilities, progress, problems, solutions etc.

  • Keep a list of sources of information/ links - sites, food, accomodation, transportation etc.
  • Sponsorship- evidence of communication
  • A reflection of the process and learning at the end of the assessment

  • Assessment duration - Week 2 - 4 of Term 3.

  • Use MHJC$ instead of NZ$

How to achieve well in Collaboration

To agree at the start:

  • Who is doing what? By when?

  • set up a group log with this information. Ensure it is updated at least once a week by all group members

During the project:

  • group members communicate issues/problems arising with resources and tasks. Solutions noted in log book

  • teacher is kept informed about progress and any issues/ problems arising

  • keep up to date with your agreed tasks

Assessment hand in:

  • group effectiveness reflection will be completed

  • ensure that your teacher has a copy of your log book, named/signed by all group members.

Note: if your logbook is not handed in, your teacher will use their judgements based on observations and conversations with the group to assess this criteria.
