    • Welcome to Fashion and Design 2024

                                                                                                          

    • My name is Mrs Hewlett and I am excited to be leading your learning journey in Fashion and Design this year. We will also have Mr Jackson working with us this year in Fashion & Design and he will be able to help us when we want to use different materials in our projects.

      We have our Learning Intentions on MHO but all our activities will be on Google Classroom. There will be work that needs doing at home so that you can use the lessons at school for making stuff.

    • We are EXPLORING what soft materials and textiles are by identifying different types of soft materials and textiles in our daily lives.

    • We are EXPLORING safety when working in the Fabric Technology room and when working with equipment and tools by identifying the correct safety procedures. 

    • We are EXPLORING how to use the correct technique for making a plain seam by demonstrating that we can thread the machine top and bottom and sew a plain seam -  zig zag & machine neaten.

    • We are EXPLORING how to use tools and equipment safely and correctly by demonstrating how to use the sewing machine and tools to construct a draw string bag and then Phone or ipad plop.

    Success Criteria

    •  I can/have identified soft materials / textiles examples we use in our everyday life.    

    • I can/have identified safety issues in the fabric tech room 

    • I can identify tools and equipment we will use in the Fabric Tech room and how to use them correctly and safely.

    • I can/have sewn on paper using the sewing machine - straight/ curves/ pivoting and filed this in my folder

    • I can/ have threaded the sewing machine top and bottom and sewn on fabric with thread - plain seam, straight stitch, reverse, zig zag and machine neatening and filed this in my folder.

    • I can/have constructed my drawstring bag and phone or ipad plop cushion  using the sewing machine

    • Activities:

      1. Work through the introductory slide show on GC with the teacher.
      2. Complete the activity on Safety in the Fabric tech room - see Google Classroom
      3. Complete the activity on Equipment - see Google Classroom
      4. Sew on paper without thread - straight/ curves/pivot.  File in your folder.
      5  Demonstrate that you can thread the sewing machine - top and bottom
      6. Demonstrate that you can sew on fabric - a plain seam straight stitch reversing each end. Show you can zig zag and machine neaten. File in your folder.
      7. Show your sewing skills by making a drawstring bag, phone or ipad plop cushion.

  • Term 2 - Week 1

      • Term 2 Week 1 - following on from Term 1 for most students to finish their Drawstring Bag and Phone Plop. 
        • New work to start Week 2. Those finished can start on some Research see Week 2.

        • 5 Students to make Cushion Cover not the Tote Bag - Norah/ Mehereen/ Calais/ Keith/ Viance.

      • We are EXPLORING how to use tools and equipment safely and correctly by demonstrating how to use the sewing machine and tools to construct a draw string bag and then Phone or ipad plop using a Plain Seam and Zig Zag.

      Success Criteria

      • I can/ have threaded the sewing machine top and bottom and sewn on fabric with thread - plain seam, straight stitch, reverse, zig zag and machine neatening and filed this in my folder.

      • I can/have constructed my drawstring bag - using 1 more Fabric Decorating Methods and my name
      • I can/have constructed a and phone or ipad plop cushion using the sewing machine - using a Plain Seam & Zig Zag. 
      • Activities:
      • 1. Show your sewing skills by making a drawstring bag - follow the yellow cards

      • 2. Construct a phone or ipad plop cushion - following the instructions & stage samples. 

      • 3. Make sure all work on GC from Term 1 is completed and your folder is up to date.

    Success Criteria:

    I can/have identified what i like /dislike about some existing decorations on bags
    I can/have identified the fabric decoration methods used in the collage.

    Activities:

    Complete the activities in the Journal on GC 1-5
    Explore the different  Fabric Decoration methods by trying at least 3 of these.
    Complete a PMI on at least 3 Fabric Decoration Methods and gain stakeholder feedback - you may use some of what you did in Term 1.

        • We are FOCUSING on finding 1 or 2 fabric decoration methods that you might use on your tote bag

        • We are FOCUSING on creating a design drawing by creating some design ideas

        • We are MAKING our tote bag by applying a design to fabric using fabric decoratio methods and then construction the bag following the instructions.


    Success Criteria:

    I can/have completed activities in the Journal on GC 1-5,6
    I can/have identified what i like /dislike about some existing decorations on bags
    I can/have identified the fabric decoration methods used in the collage.
    I can/have explored/ tried different fabric decoration methods
    I can/have experimented  1-2 that I might use on my bag (starting to FOCUS).
    I can/have create a drawing of the design I am going to apply to my fabric
    I can/have applied my design to fabric and constructed the bag following the instructions.

    Activities:

    Explore the different  Fabric Decoration methods by trying at least 3 of these.
    Complete a PMI on at least 3 Fabric Decoration Methods and gain stakeholder feedback.
    Create a design sketch of what you want to make / apply to your fabric.
    Apply your design to fabric and construct the bag following the instructions on GC.
    Finish GC activities 7,8.

    Work on your assessment each lesson at least 10 minutes.

  • Week 8

      See Week 5 - we will continue to work through these Learning Intentions and Success Criteria till the end of the term and your bag is made and assessment can be submitted.

          • We are FOCUSING on deciding on a method to use by experimenting, gathering stakeholder feedback and using a PMI to help make a decision

          • We are FOCUSING...on developing a design and developing this further using stakeholder feedback

          • We are MAKING our bag by applying our chosen design onto our fabric using the chosen fabric decoration methods and constructing the bag following the instruction
