    Welcome to Fashion and Design.

    My name is Mrs Hewlett and I am excited to be leading your learning journey in Fashion and Design this year. 

    We have our Learning Intentions on MHO but all our activities will be on Google Classroom. There will be work that needs doing at home so that you can use the lessons at school for making stuff.

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING what soft materials and textiles are by identifying different types of soft materials and textiles in our daily lives.
    • We are EXPLORING safety when working in the Fabric Technology room and when working with equipment and tools by identifying the correct safety procedures. 
    • We are EXPLORING how to use safely and correctly equipment and tools by demonstrating how to use the sewing machine and tools to construct a Phone or ipad plop.
    • We are EXPLORING how to use the correct technique for making a plain seam by demonstrating that i can thread the machine top and bottom and sew a straight stitch and zig zag..

    Success Criteria

    I can/have identified soft materials / textiles examples we use in our everyday life

    I can/have sewn on paper using the sewing machine - straight/ curves/ pivoting

    I can/ have threaded the macine top and bottom and sewn on fabric with thread - plain seam, straight stitch, reverse.

    I can/have constructed my phone or ipad plop cushion  using the sewing machine 

    Activities:

    1. Work through slide show on GC with the teacher.
    2. Complete the activity on Safety in the Fabric tech room - see Google Classroom
    3. Complete the activity on Equipment - see Google Classroom
    4. Sew on paper withour thread - straight/ curves/pivot.

        • We are MAKING our bag by applying our chosen design onto our fabric using the chosen fabric decoration methods and constructing the bag following the instruction cards or teacher

    Success Criteria:

        • We are EXPLORING the different characteristics of Fibres/Fabrics so that we know what we need to consider when choosing fabric that will be fit for purpose.

    I can/ i have constructed my bag following the instructions on GC.
    I can/ I have recorded my progress each lesson in my planning diary
    I can/ have particpated in the workshops on fabric/fibre characteristics and written this up.

    Make = Sew your bag together - follow instructions given by the teacher or use the laminated instruction cards.
    Make sure all T2 GC activities are turned in.

    Participate in the workshops with Ms A - Fibre / Fabric Characteristics.
    Write up the findings from workshops with Ms A -record on the paper given.

    Complete the activities in the Boxer Journal doc on GC.
    Participate in the activities in class and complete the activities on GC re Patterns, Pattern symbols, preparing fabric and cutting out.
    Prepare your fabric and pattern - check with the teacher before cutting out.
    Construct your boxers following the instructions on the cards, GC or seek help from the teacher.
