    Welcome to Food & Fabric Technology 7F1 & 7F2!

    Mrs. Hewlett will be your fabrics teacher and Mrs. Roodt will be your food teacher. 

    • 7F1 will be doing food technology from Week 1 - Week 5 and then move to fabric technology for the rest of the term. 
    • 7F2 will be doing fabric technology from Week 1 - Week 5 and then move to food technology for the rest of the term. 

    We hope that you are excited and ready to learn new cooking and sewing skills.

  • Week 5: SOFT MATERIALS - Mrs Hewlett

    Welcome to Soft Materials Technology.

    FOREST WHANAU - Term 1

    In our 5 weeks we will be exloring what Soft Materials/ Textiles are and using equipment and tools to work with fabrics to create a notebook cover for Camp.

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING what soft materials and textiles are by identifying different types of soft materials and textiles in our daily lives.
    • We are EXPLORING safety when working in the Fabric Technology room and when working with equipment and tools by identifying the correct safety procedures. 
    • We are EXPLORING how to use the correct technique for making a plain seam by demonstrating that i can thread the machine top and bottom and sew a straight stitch and zig zag..
    • We are EXPLORING how to use safely and correctly equipment and tools by demonstrating how to use the sewing machine and tools to construct a notebook cover for our Camp notebooks.

    Success Criteria

    I can/have sewn on paper using the sewing machine - straight/ curves/ pivoting

    I can/have threaded the sewing machine - top and bottom and sewn a straight stitch and zig zag

    I can/have experimented with different Fabric Decoration Methods

    I can/have created a design that i am going to put on my fabrc.

    I can/have constructed my cover using machine or hand sewing

    Activities:

    1. Work through slide show on GC with the teacher.

    5. Activity - experiment with fabric crayon, pens and paint.

    This week you will be swapping over to food/fabrics. We hope that you have enjoyed your time in the kitchen/sewing room.
