Section outline

  • FOCUS / ARONGA

    FOCUS / ARONGA learning intentions:

    • We are FOCUSING on developing functional skills in mathematics such as reading timetables, maps etc
    • We are FOCUSING on solving problems involving speed, Distance-time graph, trigonometry.

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING to recognise the appropriate units of measurement.
    • We are EXPLORING to calculate the distance and time to a given location on our Journey.
    • We are EXPLORING to connect the functional skills in mathematics such as reading timetable, chart and calculating speed to our context " The Journey"

The Journey | Podcast on Spotify

This term our context is " The Journey". As part of this context we will explore mathematical concepts and functional skills needed as part of any journey- Reading timetables and charts, understanding units of measurement, Distance-time graphs and moving into Algebra.

    Paearu Angitu / Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • Interpret timetables and charts.
    • Identify units of measurements.
    • Convert between units of measurement.

    Hei Mahi / Activities:

    1. Label the books.
    2. Go through rules and routines.
    3. Complete the functional skills question from Dr Frost- Reading charts and timetables.
    4. On Dr Frost, go to Secondary _ Shapes & Measures_ Convert between units _ Unit 324_ Convert between units of area and volume using multiplication and division.
