This week we are continuing with our study of Mise-en-scene. Last week we were introduced to the first element of mise-en-scene: settings and props. This week we will be looking at the next element of mise-en-scene: costume hair and makeup.
S1 - WE ARE LEARNING TO IDENTIFY AND EXPLAIN HOW SETTINGS AND PROPS COMMUNICATE MEANING IN VISUAL TEXTS
We will continue working on this shared Google Slide today during our lesson as we look more closely at Mise en scene - in particular, the first element of mise-en-scene, Setting and Props.
You will know you have been successful when you have:
- worked effectively in small groups
- identified what settings and props are the most common in the genre you have been assigned to analyse
- explained what and how these settings are connected to the genre
- provided an example for each setting and prop you explain and identify
- presented your slide to the class
S2 - WE ARE LEARNING TO IDENTIFY AND EXPLAIN HOW COSTUME, HAIR AND MAKEUP COMMUNICATE MEANING IN VISUAL TEXTS
In pairs, you are to select an image from the genre you are specialising in. Then, you are to analyse the costume, hair and makeup of that image. In it, you will be expected to explain what you can see, what it communicates to you and finally, what the overall effect is of these elements.
You will know you have been successful when you have:
- viewed a short video showing to the Top 10 Makeup Transformations of all time
- worked effectively in groups
- selected an image from your assigned genre to analyse
- completed the costume, hair and makeup table, analysing the effect the costume, hair and makeup has on the viewers understanding of character
