Term 3: Week 7
Section outline
-
PLAN & DO / WHAKAMAHI learning intentions:
- We are APPLYING our understanding to use a Cartesian plane to plot given points
- We are PLANNING to transform and translate shapes
- We are PLANNING to use hectares as a measurement tool in problem-solving
- We are PLANNING to PERFORM operations with capacity
- We are measuring slide lengths and APPLYING formulae to calculate perimeter and area
- We are PERFORMING angle measurements using a protractor
- We are CONSTRUCTING a net to package a gift

Authentic Outcomes: Construct gift packaging for your 'states of matter' honey rice bubble slice. (Create a net for a boxed gift)
Success Criteria: I can...
• Use geometry tools to measure length and angle (eg. ruler and protractor)
• Calculate edge length measurements by a ratio of 1:2 to enlarge
• Plan, draw and construct a net to form a 3D package
• Use edge lengths to calculate perimeter, circumference, area and volumeDo Now: Numeracy Ninjas
Mental Strategies, Timetables and Key Skills revision.Class Activities: Geometry & Measurement
1. Re-read the Assessment 2 task description and rubric.
2. Select the type of net that you wish to enlarge and construct for your Honey Rice Bubble Slice gift packaging.
3. Select the colour of A2 card you wish to use for your packaging investigation.
4. Use a ruler, measure the edge lengths then enlarge by a scale factor of 1:2.
5. Using a protractor, check that interior angles are accurate when enlarging your net to your cardboard plan.
6. Cut your completed net out with scissors. Score the folded edges to achieve a crisp fold line.
7. Glue to secure. Add a decorative napkin inside your 3D package, place your Honey Rice Bubble Slice into a plastic bag and secure with a twist tie.
8. Close and add on package label and gift tag. Gift to someone special!
Homework:
Maths Buddy is your priority for your at-home practice. Please complete your set homework tasks by Friday at 9:30am (Forest's homework routine has now changed to 'Due on Fridays & re-issued on Fridays' to allow you more time ). If you have completed your assigned activities please do extra practice on your 'Ludi' timetables programme.
Please record your homework progress in your school diary. (eg. Monday 2 x MB tasks completed).
