  • PLAN & DO / WHAKAMAHI

PLAN & DO / WHAKAMAHI learning intentions:

    • We are PLANNING to construct a table of values from a pattern so that we can draw a linear graph
    FOCUS / ARONGA

    FOCUS / ARONGA learning intentions:

    • We are FOCUSING developing a rule to describe a pattern.

    TERM 3   WEEK 4

We are looking at tables, patterns, graphs and their relationship(context) over the next two weeks. This topic is also integrated with your science investigation this term.

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • Substitute values into formulae
    • Describe and extend geometric patterns
    • Construct a table of values and write a rule to describe a pattern
    • Use the rule to solve problems

    Activities:

    1. Warm up - https://www.transum.org/software/SW/Starter_of_the_day/Students/Stable_Scales_Quiz.asp
    2. Recap the concept of substitution - substituting values into a formula to complete a table of values
    3. Geometric and spatial patterns - continuing patterns and filling out a table of values for the pattern (Differentiated)
    4. Using the table of values to come up with a formula/rule for that pattern
    5. Using the the rule to solve problems related to a pattern
    6. Online practice for patterns and rules - https://www.transum.org/Maths/Activity/Matchstick_Patterns/
    7. Graphing simple linear equations and answering related questions
    8. Extension - Finding the gradient and equation of a line from a linear graph

    Homework:

    Maths Buddy (Differentiation)
