Success Criteria
We are investigating and researching the way mathematical concepts such as symmetry can be used in cultural artworks
Maori culture uses mathematical concepts a lot in their kowhaiwhai patterns
The carved figures or pou are also often quite symmetrical in their features.
Whakamana
Investigate a variety of images and look for symmetrical patterns.
Practise drawing symmetrical patterns
Imagine what the head of a Maori God would look like and practise drawing it, making sure that the facial features are symmetrical
Your Visual Art diary should have examples of symmetrical patterns from other cultures…. Try to find at least three cultures with patterned art that shows symmetry being used
Imagine one of the Maori Gods. Draw a picture of their face and make sure that the features on the face are symmetrical.
Free drawing…. At the BACK of your book draw whatever you like.
