Section outline

  • Kia ora.10

    Success Criteria:

Students will have investigated a range of shapes and created a poster to show their knowledge of how to calculate the area, perimeter volume and surface area within the context  ‘Te Taha Wairua.’ Students will use a digital application to explain their poster and to show their understanding of measurement and geometry concepts.

    Activities:

    1. Your task is to construct an A3 poster to show your understanding of measurement and geometry concepts that we have discussed in class.  Use screencastify or Animoto to explain your calculations...

      1. At Goat Island, Year 8 students used a range of buoyancy aids.  Draw a poster to show your understanding of the area by calculating:

      1. The area of a boogie board

      2. The area of a tire inner tube

      1. At Goat Island, many Year 8 students enjoyed the opportunity to eat a shared picnic lunch.  On your A3 Poster, draw your picnic

you must show your understanding of the area, capacity, volume and composite shapes:

      1. Area: Of your towel

      2. Volume: Of your water bottle and lunch box

      3. Liquid Capacity: Of your water bottle

      4. Composite Shapes: eg. Two towels joined together

      1. Whilst at the Goat Island Marine Education Centre, Edrey examined a kina.  Add this to your poster to
        show your understanding of...

      1. The calculations for the circumference of a circle

      2. The calculations for the area of a circle

    Further Learning:
No homework on Maths buddy but you will be conducting your own investigation for taking measurements of house hold objects

    PLAN & DO / WHAKAMAHI

PLAN & DO / WHAKAMAHI learning intentions:

    • We are PLANNING to use Google Earth to download the map and demonstrate the correct boundaries of Goat Island so that we can demonstrate our knowledge of reading scales and solve area problems with bigger numbers.
