Section outline

  • REFLECT / WHAIWHAKAARO

    REFLECT / WHAIWHAKAARO learning intentions:

    • We are REFLECTING...on term 1 and term 2 to identify barriers and to reduce gaps in our learning by revising what we learnt and being tested for mastery of number, geometry and stats at levels 3 and 4.

S/C: Reflecting on our weekly test. How might we improve on remembering what we have learnt?

Marked test papers to be distributed. After each lesson on question, students to make corrections on their ex books.

    • Do now: 1. 5 mins basic facts timed prototec. stage 6, 7, 8.  80%.

                      2. 5 mins times tables  0 - 10 timed at  https://maths.prototec.co.nz/ at challenge stage. Score 80%.

      3.  15 mins of Maths buddy tasks on LCM, HCF, Factors, multiples. - application on fractions to simplify and create common denominators.

      • Teacher model in groups. materials, hiding one part of the equation.

      4. 15 minutes of Ed.Perfect task on coordinates and graphs.

      5. 15. minutes on creating graphs in your exercise book and plotting coordinates with ruler, pencil, arrows, point of origin, axes, equal spacing on the axes for positive and negative numbers,  naming coordinate points  as A, B, E,F with their coordinates in brackets. Joining the points  A to B and E to F with a ruler. Incomplete work as HW.

      6. 5 minutes:  Recap lesson on graphs. Main points. Each student recalls 2 things they learnt.

      Coordinates: A ( -4, 2).  B (3, -3).

Join A to B with a straight line.

Name this line gradient or slope. Use the letter m for slope.

Where does the slope cut the Y axis? Call this point C. C = ?

Is the gradient negative or positive? Explain.

      Research independent and dependent variables.

What does the word variable mean?

Which axis represents the independent variable on a graph? Why? Explain.

      Coordinates: E ( 4, 3), F ( -5, -4) do the same as above.
