We will dive into our context this term.
Learning Intention:
We are developing our understanding of New Zealand's cultural identity through learning and play traditional games.
We are developing our understanding of our own personal identities and how these can differ from others'.
Success Criteria
- List games, activities, sports that are found in NZ culture
- Define who you are.
- Understand how New Zealand traditional games have lead to our cultural identity
- Understand how different people can have different needs and understandings in relationships
- Participate in all the activities that support our growth as a team
- Investigate how you can build the understanding of yourself to help others
- Find ways in which our new supportive team can create a greater sense of belonging in Coast (this is done in collaboration with English and Global) so that you can work together to solve a community issue
- Find ways in which you can be yourself in relationships and respectful to others as well
This term in Physical Education, we will look at the Cultural Identity of Sport in NZ through exploring traditional games.
In Health, we will look at our own individual identity through learning about the human body, sexuality, and influences in the media.
Term 1 CONTEXT - Ahurea Tuakiri - Cultural Identity
WEDNESDAY - In-class
We will be in class every Monday from Week 2 onwards.
THURSDAY - Practical session
We will begin to explore games that have shaped the foundation of NZ Maori culture. The first game we will look at is = Ti Uru
Key words to learn:
Ki = ball
Whariki = mats
Te pawero = defensive zone
FRIDAY - Practical session
We will continue to explore games that have shaped the foundation of NZ Maori culture. The first game we will look at is = Ti Uru. Most weeks this session will be take by Focus Friday.
