Section outline

  • Kia ora... I am away at Sports Camp this week - Please complete some research on the following topics and make a decision on whether you think it should or should not be legalised.  You do not have to share with anyone, but in your head - do you think

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • Understand the pro's/cons of legalising marijuana.
    • Make an informed decision on whether it should be legal or illegal
    • Understand the long term effects of using marijuana - especially is smoked at a young age

    Activities:

    1. Before you start researching - Think about whether marijuana should be legal or illegal - based on your previous knowledge
    2. Begin your research:

    1.  Find the long term effects of smoking marijuana

Truth about drugs website:  https://www.drugfreeworld.org is a good site

    1. Look at the pros and cons of legalising marijuana

      1. Put themselves in the shoes of someone who WANTS marijuana to be legalised - what are the benefits. I want you to find things on the economy, prisons/crime, regulation/control of the product, advertising, black market, anything else…

    1. Put themselves in the shoes of someone who is anti-marijuana and does NOT want it legalised. Think of the reasons why this this would be a bad idea -

    Pros and cons of legalisation:

You can use government sites, police sites and anything else official.

Now revisit your decision about whether marijuana should be legal or not.  Did anyone change their mind?  Did the evidence sway you? Do you still agree with your original stance, but can see the other side more?

Pretty interesting site if you have time - or for homework - its a quick read.
