  • Kia ora...students and welcome to week 3.For this week you will be researching soldiers letters to their families, its meaning and relevance. Also you would create your own letter as if you were a soldier of that time.

    Big Idea:  War,  conflict and Survival.

    Learning Intentions: We are learning to (WALT)...

    • research one historical document such as a letter from a soldier that reflects their story during a war/ peace treaty 
    • analyse what does this document say and its relevance
    • create your own letter that shows the journey of experience  of that time, associated with the war example you are studying. or your own peace treaty

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • researched  a historical document that shows importance of what soldiers or families experience during a war.
    • create your own historical document 

    Activities:


    1. Why do you think letters send from families to soldiers were important. Also do you think soldiers replied? How did they do so?See examples on the white board on historical documents during the war. Examples include Ann Frank and soldiers documenting their love for their families as well as the hardships they were subjected too.

    4. Research one document of your choice, ideally a letter from a soldier. copy this document and summarise what you think its key messages are. Reflect  and write on your views on this letter.
    5. Pretend that you were a soldier during the time of war of your chosen case study eg: Vietnam War, WW1, Pearl Harbour, ect. Write a letter of your journey at this time. What would you like your family to know. 
    6. Create a letter that shows the date/ location/ style of writing/ paper of that time. Your ideas should also highlight actual facts of that war.
