Kia ora...students and welcome to term 3. Our learning context: Survival, where you will be exploring countries that have had famous wars and conflict in the past and present.

Learning Intentions: We are learning to (WALT)...
- unpack and understand our context with links to war and conflict
- Brainstorm countries from around the world that has experiences war and conflict, thus showing on map where these are located.
- Think of at leat ten words that link with around the world as well as war and conflict
- watch and evaluate a video based on war. Reflect your views
- Draw a famous building/ monument/ icon that has been destroyed by war.
Success Criteria: I can/have...
- Understood our learning context with connections to war and conflict
- Brainstormed ideas that link to war
- Researched countries that had experienced war or in current state of conflict Locate these countries on the world Map.
- Evaluated the short video on war, expressing my views on this event.

- What does survival mean to you. Are you aware of the various wars that occurred in History. List a few.
- By using Mind-map or bubbleus.com, think of words that link with what does war, conflict and survival. What doe these concepts mean to you.
- Watch and discuss this video, as a class.

- Through research draw find famous landmark/ building/ monument/statue/icon that has beed destroyed by war. Examples include Berlin Wall/ Hitler.Write down 3 ideas about the image you find. Why is it significant.
- Look at the world map. Locate the various wars where it began and the countries it impacted on.
- Image of Hitler: What do you know about him. Let's research a brief understanding of his role as Nazi Leaders in Germany. What are your views about Hitler.
Project work:
- By working in pairs, pretend you are a historian, and you will choose one case study of a country that has been subjected to war and conflict. It can also be a current situation. Locate where this country is.Show the map/ landmarks/ leader of that time/ current leaders/population statistics/ climate/. Why did the war begin here/ What where the impacts and consequences it safe to travel to this country today.
- Research one newspaper article that shows evidence of the war you have chosen to research. Copy the link of this article and write a summary of what it says.
