Kia ora...students. From this week, you will explore ways to reduce and resolve the environmental problems This aspect of the learning will involve innovation that is realistic, achievable yet creative and interesting.

Achievement Objectives: Enter AO's here
Big Idea: The Earth is Healing
Learning Intentions: We are learning to (WALT)...
- reflect on on environmental problem and brainstorm at least three innovative ways to reduce or resolve this issue
- select one of my ideas and begin researching how to design and create this
Success Criteria: I can/have...
- researched various ideas that will resolve or reduce the environmental problem i have researched.
- with your team decided on one idea to focus on and determine why this is relevant and the best fit as an environmental solution.
- began planning how to design and construct with your idea
Activities:
- Watch the video on innovative solutions that address environmental problems such as the innovation of electric cars. Give your views are whether these will work in New Zealand as well as third world countries. Give reasons why. What positive difference are some innovations making to the environment.
- Refer to the picture below and answer the following: What is solar power? research and draw a diagram on how solar energy is used. List ways solar pannels/ energy is used in New Zealand. Which countries in the world will you suggest should use more of this type of energy and why? What are the overall benefits of solar power? List other forms of power that is used from elements form nature.

3. By working in your teams brainstorm various ways you can reduce and resolve your chosen environmental problem. Finally select one idea that you will focus on to design and create.
4) Sketch what your innovation looks like. Have labels to this diagram and also write a short paragraph on how does it work and why this is an important innovation to stop or reduce your identified environmental problem.
PLAN & DO / WHAKAMAHI learning intentions:
- We are PLANNING... to design a model or prototype that helps the environment, people and possibly the economy post Covid 19
- We are planning to consult with scientists. engineers or specialists about our innovation
- We are planning to collaborate with a team to produce an innovative design
- We are planning to solve one identified environmental problem that may continue to pick up or worsen post Covid 19
- We are planning to share our ideas to support the Science Fair held in Coast Whanau
