  • Kia ora 8C2. Welcome to Week 2 of Term 1! 

    The next two weeks, we will be unpacking and learning about coasts. We will explore some NZ coastlines, share our experiences and get an understanding why the coast is special.

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING a range of texts so that we can interpret the structure used.
    • We are EXPLORING a range of texts to recognise the language features that make a text interesting.
    • We are EXPLORING texts to discover a variety of Maori myths and legends connected to oceans in New Zealand.

    • share my experiences and prior knowledge related to coasts
    • explain the characteristics that make coasts so special.
    • show my learning creatively.

    Activities:

    1. Unpacking Coast- think, brainstorm, share. 
    Whole class reading: Introduction to the coastal environment. What is a coastal environment? Why is the coast so special? 
    • Infer the meaning of unknown and technical words. 
    • Discuss the main points.

         2.  Research: New Zealand coasts and their characteristics
         3.  Craft a poem to wrap up my new learning.
