Kia Ora Y7. This week, we move to our new context ‘For the People or For the Power?’ Our focus will be on different political parties in New Zealand and their leaders. We will understand their points of views in relation to certain important matters such as the environment, closed borders etc. We will form vertical Water whanau political parties and contest elections.
Also we will focus on ‘Reading and Writing’ to prepare ourselves for the easTTle Reading & Writing tests at the start of next term. Remember to have your reading books with you in all English sessions. We will practice different genres of writing.
Big Idea: ‘For the People or For the Power?’
Activities:
-Getting to know major political parties in New Zealand and completing a worksheet.
-Writing our goals for easTTle Reading and Writing tests.
-Learning ‘Descriptive Writing.’
Success Criteria: (I can)
-understand how leadership is acquired in New Zealand by studying about the political parties and their leaders
-compare and contrast the policies of different political parties of New Zealand for the 2020 Election to understand their positioning on Environment and Closed Borders etc.
-show an increasing understanding of how texts are shaped for different purposes and audiences.
-construct texts (delivering speeches, making posters and writing manifesto) that demonstrate an understanding of purpose and audience through deliberate choice of content, language and text form
-use verbal & written language language features and an increasing range of vocabulary to communicate ideas, precise meaning & effect
