You will produce a creative presentation about a conservation project that is being carried out in Aotearoa to protect Te Taiao.
Choose ONE conservation project to present about:
Tiakina Kauri Mission (Protecting Kauri Trees from Disease)
Predator Free 2050 (Getting Rid of Pests in New Zealand)
Include:
Māori connection to te taiao and kaitiakitanga
How Māori used native plants and animals in their culture and daily life (e.g., food, medicine).
How Māori took care of the environment as guardians.
Importance of the Conservation Project:
- How the conservation project uses Māori ideas to protect nature.
- Why the conservation project is important for Te Taiao (the natural world)
- Which native plants, animals, or ecosystems will be protected
- Why Māori ideas like Manaakitanga (caring for others), Mauri (life force), and Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) are important in your chosen conservation project.
