English Assessment 2 - Response to text

Completion requirements

Context: 'Effective Systems for Sustainable Living'. Show your understanding of ideas and the world through a text.

Part 1: One-pager

A one-pager is an analytical, creative, and a written response to a visual text that completely fills one side of a piece of paper. 

Your one-pager must be:

  •  well-PLANNED and well-constructed .

  •  well-constructed  using visual language techniques where elements in images are arranged to create a particular visual effect and to communicate certain thoughts, ideas, feelings, meanings and messages


Your answers must reflect critical thinking for a deeper understanding and be supported by evidence. Use TEXAS or PEDAL to structure your paragraphs.

Part 2: This part of the  assessment requires you to use text and world ideas to form responses which show deeper understanding of a visual text. 

Choose ANY 1 from the given choices. Your answers must reflect critical thinking for a deeper understanding and be supported with evidence. Use TEXAS or PEDAL to structure your paragraphs.

Compulsory component:

  1.  With reference to the context, Effective Systems for Sustainable Living, explain what ‘The Boy who Harnessed the Wind’ has taught you about ourselves, our societies and the world. Support with evidence from the text and your knowledge of the world. 

  2. Choose a community or world issue we are faced with today. Explain a system you would innovate or strongly advocate to provide effective solutions for this issue.

Choice 1

TITLE: 

Is the title of the novel appropriate? Explain why the book is titled so. If you could rename this book, what would you call it and why.

Choice 2

SETTING:

Describe the setting and explain the effect it has on the characters.

What does the setting tell us about the characters? What feelings or attitudes do the characters reveal toward the setting? E.g. fear, hopelessness, pleasure, challenge, panic, respect.  

Choice 3

CONFLICTS:

Explain how a major problem in the text was solved. Do you think it was the best way to handle it? Why or why not?
