    Welcome to your Mission Heights Online course page. Here you will find planning and assessments to guide you through your personal learning journey each term. If you would like to communicate with me at any time (outside of class time) please email me: Mrs Clansey,  jclansey@mhjc.school.nz

    This week I will see you Monday and Tuesday (S5). We will begin to get to know each other and explore the contexts for our teaching and learning for term one. We'll include Digital Citizenship and a very exciting software app called "Lexia Core 5" and of course  throughout the term we have very exciting outdoor camping experiences planned for year 7s and 10s.

    Learning Intentions:

    • Become familiar with other ELL students
    • Introduce myself through a personal letter to Mrs Clansey

    Success Criteria:

    • Introduce another class member to a small group
    • Write/ Speak 3 sentences about each member of our class using google classroom forum

    Activities:

    • Look at all our devices - note them on a google doc for future reference
    • Read Mrs Clansey’s introductory letter (on google classroom)
    • 3 words around the room
    • Seeking scavenger hunt
    •Begin to write your letter to Mrs C

    complete your introductory letter :o)

    Learning Intentions: We are learning to (WALT)...

    • explore a variety of texts to learn about purpose and audience
    • independently use the library systems

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • identify a recommended novel at my level (Dewey system)
    • issue a novel using the library system

    Activities:

    1. complete the library introduction session (Mrs Townsend)
    2. explore a number of novels recommended by Mrs Clansey
    3. locate and begin to read one of the books (check in with Mrs C to make sure it is at your level)
    4. digitally track your reading for pleasure

    Follow Up Tasks:
    Read every evening at home for 15 mins :o)

    This week we find ourselves in level 3 lockdown because of Covid 19 cases in our community...I look forward to seeing all of you next week!

    Please look after yourself and your family, help out at home, do some reading fro pleasure and catch up on any school work that teachers have given you to complete.

    This week we will begin to connect digitally with lexiacore5 Reading programme. You will need the following information: Website: www.lexiacore5.com Teacher's email: jclansey@mhjc.school.nz 


    Learning Intentions: We are learning to (WALT)...

    • Use Lexiacore5 web based reading programme to build our skills in English.

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • completed assessment and working at our own level
    • use the 6 icons to practice my skills in English
    • receive instruction in my first language (if Chinese)

    Activities:

    1. Log in using the information on the whiteboard and on mheightsonline course page
    2. complete the foundational reading skills by interacting online 
    3. Receive teacher led sessions when i am finding it difficult

    Follow Up Tasks:
    lexia core 5 can be done anywhere :o) practice at home and share it with my family
