  • Term 1 Week 8

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING...water safety by investigating and observing the forces involved in bouyancy and swimming
    • We are EXPLORING...bodies of water by observing the water cycle and the varying nature of lakes, rivers and the sea

    Welcome to week 7
Last week in science we investigated the influence of drag on objects moving through fluids and how we can use this knowledge to swim more safely. This week we are moving on to learning about the water cycle, so that next week we can investigate the influence of people on the water cycle.

    Success Criteria: I can/have....

    • Explain how a swimmer can use the concept of drag to increase their speed
    • Identify different stages of the water cycle
    • Describe how water moves within the water cycle

    Activities:

    1. Water cycle stations activity
    2. Draw the water cycle
    3. Key terms word scramble
    4. Education perfect water cycle class

    Further learning at Home ......

Think of and look for real life examples of evaporation and condensation

  • Term 1 Week 9

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING...bodies of water by observing the water cycle and the varying nature of lakes, rivers and the sea

    Welcome to week 9

Last week in science we investigated the water cycle and began looking at how humans may influence it by pollution. This week we are continuing to look at human influences on the water cycle, and experimenting a method of measuring water quality.

    Success Criteria: I can/have....

    • I can explain how humans can influence the water cycle (what the pollutants are and how we measure pollutants using scale?) eg. before lockdown there was a set level, during - more, after - less.
    • I can predict how an environmental disturbance would impact the water cycle

    Activities:

    1. Water clarity testing experiment
    2. What people take from the water cycle
    3. How people alter the water cycle
