    Kia ora and welcome to Y9 Hospitality. 

    My name is Mrs Priest and I will be your teacher this year. I am excited to get to know you all. A little bit about myself...I was born in Germany, have 3 kids, have studied Food Technology, Health & Safety and Business and lastly Teaching at Massey University, have worked in the Food Industry for over a decade before starting to teach.

    This week will be about getting to know each other and the food room.

    On Thursday my husband has an operation, so unfortunately I will not be at school and you will have a reliever. Sorry!

    Welcome to Week 6 of Term 1! This week we will be starting to look at the science behind making muffins. We start off by looking at the ingredient: flour.

      We are continuing to learn about Baking and especially at the art of making muffins.

      On Thursday we are making Savoury Cheese Muffins with maybe spinach and capsicum..... and on Tuesday we are learning about the Muffin Method.

      Kia ora and welcome to Week 8 of Term 1.

      This week we will be learning how to create flowcharts. This is a skill you will need to master for your assessment task.

      On Thursday, during our practical lesson, we will be making Blueberry Muffins with a crumble topping. Yum! You can find the recipe below.

        We will be making Chocolate Cupcakes. Usually cupcakes are made using the Creaming Method, but this recipe follows the Muffin Method which means all the wet ingredients in one bowl and all the dry ingredients in another and then combine both.

      3. 12 April - 18 April

        Kia ora...and welcome to Week 11 of Term 1.

        This week in our theory lesson, we will be looking at advertising and marketing, as well as calculating the cost of a muffin. I would also like for you to start selecting a muffin recipe that you want to trial in Term 2. Once you have selected a recipe, please forward this to Mrs Priest.

        For our practical, we will be making chocolate chip muffins by Allyson Gofton.

        Kia ora...and welcome to Week 5 of Term 2

        On Tuesday we will be getting ready for our big muffin sale which is happening on Thursday. We will be printing our advertising posters, working on the Advertising group worksheet on GC, working out who will have what job on Thursday.

        On Thursday during Session 3 we will be baking our muffins that we are going to sell. I will be assessing you on your practical skills as per the checklist on GC. At lunchtime, we will be selling the muffins (part of the assessment as well).

        Please note your Advertising Group work is due on Thursday by 3pm.

      10. 7 June - 13 June

        Kia ora and welcome to Week 6 of Term 2. This week is a short week with Monday being a public Holiday and Tuesday being Teacher Only Day. Enjoy your extra long week end!

        On Thursday we will be making Burgers as our new topic from next week will be Fast Foods.


      11. 14 June - 20 June

        Kia ora...and welcome to Week 7 of Term 2. This week we will start to explore our new topic "Fast Foods".

        If you feel like baking, I made this super simple recipe and it was yum too. It is easy to substitute the ingredients also e.g.g flour for corn starch. It is also quite healthy, have a look:

        Kia ora and welcome back to Lockdown Learning. This is Week 3 of Term 4.

        Well done on completing your assessment last week! I will be marking this week and getting your work moderated, and hopefully you will see your grades the week after.

        I thought as a final topic we could look at ice cream. That way, we can make ice cream in the classroom once we return to school (and if we are allowed to cook), should that happen this term. It will be a nice treat as the weather gets warmer.
