    Kia ora and welcome to Y9 Food Technology. 

    My name is Mrs Priest and I will be your teacher this year. I am excited to get to know you all. A little bit about myself...I was born in Germany, have 3 kids, have studied Food Technology, Health & Safety and Business and lastly Teaching at Massey University, have worked in the Food Industry for over a decade before starting to teach.

    This week will be about getting to know each other and the food room.

    On Thursday my husband has an operation, so unfortunately I will not be at school and you will have a reliever. Sorry!

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 6 of Term 1!

    I bet you are looking forward to our practical: pancakes. We will be making them on Thursday. On Wednesday we will be looking at Flowcharts and how they are used. 

    And next week we are looking at our first International pancake.

    Success Criteria:

    - I know who my team members are 

    - I can work in a team to complete the given recipe successfully

    - I can list the various shapes used for a flow chart 

    - I know the differences between the flowchart shapes

    - I can create a flowchart for making a cup of tea

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 7 of Term 1.

    On Wednesday we will be reviewing Technology Language and the Technology Design Process. Both topics are important to be successful in Technology.

    On Thursday you will be working in Teams to make our first International pancake. It will be Buttermilk Pancakes that are popular in America and Canada.

    Below is the recipe we already looked at when creating flowcharts.



    Success Criteria:

    I know I have been successful this week if I can:

    - make Buttermilk Pancakes with my team

    - name most parts of the Technology Design Process

    - can match the Technology word with its meaning

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 8 of Term 1. 

    This week we are reviewing the Technology Design Process. We are looking at what a brief is and who a stakeholder is. 

    For our practical lesson, we are making a Finnish Baked Pancake, see recipe below:

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 9 of Term 1. This week we will be starting to fill in our Pancake Journal which will be used as the assessment. On Thursday we are continuing the exploration of pancakes around the world.

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 10 of Term 1. I hope you had a great Easter break! Welcome back!

    This week we will continue to interview stakeholders, write the brief and attributes for our.pancake design and start researching suitable recipes and pictures for the assessment journal.

    On Thursday we will be making French pancakes, also known as Crepes.

    • started brainstorming suitable attributes for my pancake design

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 11 of Term 1.

    This week you will be continuing with your Pancake Assessment journal. By now you should have interviewed your stakeholders, documented their responses, written a brief and are compiling a list of attributes that you want your pancake design to have. You should also be researching recipes and images of pancakes that match the pancake that your stakeholder has described. Once you have settled on a pancake recipe, please forward this to Mrs Priest so she can order the ingredients for you in order to make your prototype in Term 2.

    During our practical lesson, we will be making potato pancakes, similar to hash browns.

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • participated in making Kartoffelpuffer
    • completed more sections in my pancake assessment journal

    Activities:

    1. Write your Brief
    2. Write your Pancake Attributes
    3. Conduct pancake research (recipes and images)
    4. Forward your pancake recipe to teacher

    Kia ora...and welcome back to school. I hope you had a nice break. It is week 1 of Term 2.

    This week I will need your recipes so I can order them for you to make Trial 1. Thank you to the two groups that have already emailed me, awesome!!

    Unfortunately you will have a reliever on Thursday. I have uploaded a Pancake Day reading which should not take long at all, after which you can continue working in your assessment journal.

    Unfortunately there will be no Food Tech classes this week. 

    On Wednesday you will come to W7 to get the roll done and then we will head to the gym to watch "Ugly Shakespear". On Thursday it is Teacher Only Day.

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 4.

    Unfortunately my husband has surgery on Wednesday and I am away on a training course on Thursday. I will upload activities on Google Classroom.

    • received feedback from my stakeholder eating the first prototype.
    • added photos of my prototype to the assessment journal
    • made a plan on how to improve prototype pancake number 2
    • sent Mrs Priest any ingredients I need for my modified recipe

    On Thursday you will be completing Pancake Trial Number 2 and resent your product to the stakeholder. Please remember to take a photo and record your stakeholder's feedback again.

    You will then write up the evaluation individually at the back of the assessment booklet.

    You will then need to complete the assessment journal ready to be handed in next week Wednesday, 9th of June by 3pm.

    On Wednesday it is the last lesson to finish off your assessment.

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 7. This week we will be starting our new topic. Hygiene. We will learn about bacteria, high and low risk foods, cross contamination and food poisoning.

    On Thursday we will be making burgers. Burgers use a high risk food (meat) and we will cover the signs of how to know when a patty is cooked.

    I have uploaded a hygiene revision task on GC so you do not forget everything for your assessment.

    If you feel like baking, I made this super simple recipe and it was yum too. It is easy to substitute the ingredients also e.g.g flour for corn starch. It is also quite healthy, have a look:

    3. Give 2 signs to know whether meat has been cooked.

    Kia ora and welcome back to Lockdown Learning. This is Week 3 of Term 4.

    Well done on completing your assessment last week! I will be marking this week and getting your work moderated, and hopefully you will see your grades the week after.

    I thought as a final topic we could look at ice cream. That way, we can make ice cream in the classroom once we return to school (and if we are allowed to cook), should that happen this term. It will be a nice treat as the weather gets warmer.
