Welcome to Fashion and Design. I am looking forward to working with you to develop your design and practical skills.
All Learning Intentions, Success Criteria and Activity instructions will be on MHO.
Activities will be on GC.
Learning will be recorded in online workbooks/ journals.
Week 2 & 3 Learning Intentions
We are learning
The parts of the sewing machine
The names and uses of basic sewing tools
How to fill a bobbin, thread the machine and insert the bobbin case
Hand sewing basics - threading a needle, knots, hem stitch and tacking
We are learning all the above so that we have the basic skills to start practical work.
I can name the parts of the sewing machine

This week we will need to work on our Learning Intentions from Week 2 due to Lockdown as you were not able to complete everything set.
Our focus is to also get you feeling confident with sewing machines.
Please continue on your Basics workbook.

Kia ora all
Since we are back in Lockdown for the next week let's use this time to get everything completed. Use the Learning Intentions & Success criteria and activities that we went over back in Week 2 - work through these and do your best to finish the workbook at home this week. If you have a sewing needle and thread have a go at doing the 2 hand stitching samples. Check all activities are done on our GC.
Email me when you have finished or if you need help- we can do a google meet. I will put all due dates on GC to the end of this week. :-)

WEEK 6
Kia ora all
This is for those that have finished the previously set work.
Create a 1 page collage of Masks - so your page needs to be packed with as many different types of masks as possible. Minimum of 10 - you can do more pages if you like as you will use this in your assessment.
Think different purposes /functions and times in history and cultural traditions. You will use this is towards your first assessment. Have fun.

Welcome to Week 7 - we will be starting out new challenge in our new context Mask Up !!
Learning Intentions
We are learning / exploring the different types of masks in existence.
We are learning /exploring that all masks have a function and purpose and due to this are made of different materials
We are learning /exploring about fibes/ yarn and fabrics and how they are all different and have different properties and the impact on this on mask making.
Success Criteria

looked at the different types of mask and purposes
looked at fibres/yarn/fabrics and their properties
participated in class discussion/activities and completed this in my journal.

We are learning about the different ways fabrics are decorated
We will experiment with different fabric decoration methods to inform your technological practice.
Success Criteria:
I have completed the tasks in the Journal - Mask Up - 1-7.
I have tried at least 3 different methods of decoration fabric and completed No 8.

Welcome back to Term 2
Most of you have finished your EXPLORING our context /challenge and have FOCUSSED on what you will do in the making of your own masks.
You have also completed your Mask Up Journal - the FOCUS part where you have produced 3 designs and chosen one. Gathered Stakeholder Feedback and made a decision which Design to go with.

Bag Challenge... building your basic skills.
Create a quick and easy bag following the instructions given in class and ticking off the skills and techniques you have mastered.
This is to be completed from last term. Due ASAP Week 1. Please help others to finish their bags this week as well so we can all move onto our new challenge.If finished you will be able to move onto our new context 'JUST 4 ME '. See Google Classroom. In our context Just 4 Me - we will focus on making boxers, designing a sleepwear range, learn to do hand drawn fashion design drawings/illustrations.
Your assessment will be to look at a Fashion item of your choice and complete a research project on it for sharing with the class.

Just 4 Me Challenge....
MHJC - Great Ako - EXPLORING
We are unpacking / exploring our Just 4 Me Challenge.
Learning Intentions:
We are learning/exploring the brief and specifications
We are learning/ exploring how to take measurements for choosing a pattern
We are learning /exploring about design details that can be applied to garments
We are exploring how to present/ draw design ideas
Success Criteria:
I can /have unpacked the brief and specifications in class with the teacher and my 2 stakeholders.
I can /have taken my own measurements and matched this to the correct pattern size.
I can/ have researched online for some existing design ideas for 'details' you could add to your pattern.
I can/ have sought stakeholder feedback on my researched design 'detail' ideas
I have presented my design ideas in a hand drawn format after research.
I have drawn my boxer designs freehand or used a figure template.
Activities:
1. List some points to consider in this new challenge - Just 4 Me - participate in class brainstorm.
2. Unpack the brief and specifications in class with the teacher and find 2 stakeholders.
3. Take your own measurements and match this to the correct pattern size.
4. Research online for some existing design ideas for 'details' you could add to your pattern.
5. Seek stakeholder feedback on your researched design 'detail' ideas
6. Present your design ideas - hand drawn format after your research.
7. Draw your boxer designs freehand or used a figure template.
8. Choose the design you will develop further.

Term 4 Weeks 1 & 2
Welcome back to Term 4 Distance Learning.
For weeks 1 & 2 you are to focus on completing your Assessment.
Assessment 2: Fashion and Society

Week 3
Focus this week and the next few weeks is to look at the techniques we would have learnt about and done when making our boxers. Since we are not at school we can't make them but we can look at the process we would go through to make them. It is good to learn new skills that we can try at a later date.
MHJC GREAT AKO PLAN & DO
Learning Intention/s:
We are learning how to use an iron correctly and safely when making boxers.
Success Criteria:
I have read the information sheet on GC on the Safe use and care of an iron.
I have watched the video on GC.
I have completed the activity sheet on GC on Safe use and care of the iron.

3. Find images of casings - identifying differences at least 6. e.g uses cord, front opening, inside opening...
Submit this on GC on a doc or slide.

1. Attend class gmeet Thursday 11am
2. Find images of casings used on different types of garments (4)
3. Find images of casings - identifying differences at least 6. e.g uses cord, front opening, inside opening...
Submit this on GC on a doc or slide.
4. Read the reference infromation on GC on Seams - curves /corners.
5. Complete the activity on GC - find images showing garments where there would have been a curved seam.
6. Make sure all activities on GC are completed throughout the year.
