                                             WELCOME TO TECHNOLOGY FOR 2020                                                                     

    This year your Technology focus will be working with Food and Fabric Technology.

    You will spend 5 weeks in each specialist area and be working with Mrs Priest and Mrs Hewlett.

    Term 1 Welcome to COAST Whanau.

    In Food Technology  these are our Learning Intentions for weeks 1 & 2.

    WALT

    We are learning to:

    Explore what Technology and Food Technology is about at school and in Industry.

    Identify the parts of Great Ako Learning Model.

    Understand the terminology used in Technology Education. 

    Understand how Technology can impact on a Food.

    Identify and understand what Knowledge and Skills we will need to be able to create a success Food Product.

    Success Criteria:

    I have participated in a class discussion about Technology and Food Technology and recorded the answers on my doc.

    I can draw and label the MHJC Great Ako Learning model in my doc.

    I have found out the meanings of key technology terms that we will be using and I have written  them in my doc.

    I have worked with a Buddy to show how Technology has impacted on a food and shared this with the class.

    I have worked with a buddy on the knowledge and skills I need to prepare me for practical lessons - where i will be modifying a recipe.

    In E Textiles Technology  these are our Learning Intentions for weeks 1 & 2.

  • 17 February - 23 February

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 3 of Term 1!

    E Textiles Week 3

    Mrs Priest's class will be starting on the bookmark this week. The last two weeks we have been researching and planning. This week will all be about the resources: the materials we will be using. We will be learning about simple circuits and their components.

    WALT:

    - what an electrical circuit is

    - identify our components for the electrical circuit

    - how to thread a needle and make a knot

    - how to sew simple stitches


    Our Success Criteria this week are:

    - I have cut my bookmark

    - I have marked my circuit on the fabric bookmark

    - I can thread the needle and make a knot

    - I have sewn on the battery holder and the LED

    I look forward to seeing you all this week

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 4 of Term 1.

    This week will be shorter than usual due to the Union Meeting Thursday afternoon and the Teacher Only Day on Friday.

    For E Textiles Week 4:

    Success Criteria:

    - my bookmark circuit is complete and my LED is working

    - my decorations on my bookmark is taking shape


    Activities:

    1. get help from the teacher to fix any circuits that are not working
    2. cut out decorations for your bookmark
    3. glue decorations on bookmark

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 5 of Term 1!

    Mrs Priest's class will be looking at Food Safety on Monday because you are going to do Food Tech shortly. 

    On Wednesday and Friday I will be at camp, so there will be a worksheet for you do complete. It includes some research on electronics as well as a reflection on the bookmark you have just finished.

    Learning Intentions:

    Understand how Technology can impact on a Food.

    Success Criteria:

    I have worked with a Buddy to show how Technology has impacted on a food and shared this with the class.

    I have worked with a buddy on the knowledge and skills I need to prepare me for practical lessons - where i will be making French Toast.

    I have made French Toast 

    Activities:

    1.  Research a food item and report back to the class on how it has changed over time due to Technology.

    2. Using the recipe for French Toast - divide into the Key Stages and identify the resources you will need and the safety tips to follow.

    3. Make French Toast following the steps you identified as the Key Stages.


    For E Textiles:

    Success Criteria:

    Activities

    1. Work on your Assessment to show your planning how you will make Savoury Loaf

    2. Make Savoury Loaf in class this week or early next week.

    3. Upload your finished assessment by Wed 4th March.

    Please note that the rubric attached doesn't look the same as the Assessment doc - i have created a new doc for Y8 Coast. Still the same points but written up in different tables.

    This is our last week in Food Technology.

    Our focus is finishing our assessment and uploading it on time.

    Practical this week is Mini Pita Pizzas.

    We are learning to 

    Follow the recipe to make Mini Pita Pizzas

    Measure correctly using measuring spoons

    Wash the dishes correctly and in the correct order

    Success Criteria:

    I have completed my assessment and uploaded this on MHO

    I can measure using measuring spoons

    I can wash the dishes hygienically - in the correct order

    Activities:

    1. Assessment completed and uploaded

    2. Complete measuring activity

    3. Complete washing up activity

    4. Make Mini Pita Pizzas in class using correct Measuring and Dish washing practices.

    Kia Ora and welcome to Week 4 of Term 2 and your second week of Technology.

    We have started introducing the topic last week and by now you should have a good idea of what the project is all about. If you are unsure, please make sure you join the google meet sessions and check all documents given in the Google Classroom (Code: 5kskiw4).

    By now you should have thought of a need or an opportunity that you can use for your project.

    Please follow the steps given in your "Technology Design Process" Document.

    The focus for this week is completion of these steps and you should be finished with them by the end of this week.

    Kia Ora and welcome to Week 5 of Term 2 and your third week of Technology.

    Hopefully by now you should have a good idea of what the project is all about. If you are unsure, please make sure you join the google meet sessions and check all documents given in the Google Classroom (Code: 5kskiw4).

    By now you should have found an idea/need/opportunity that you can use as the basis of your project. You should have done some research and found a stakeholder who can give you feedback. You should have completed 2-3 sketches, then got stakeholder feedback and then completed your final sketch.

    Kia ora and welcome back to school! This is Week 6 of Term 2 and your Fourth Week in Technology!

    Hopefully you should have finished your Technology project and completed the "Technology Design Process" document on Google Classroom. Well done to all those who have worked hard and handed in their work already!

    This week's task it is mainly to finish any assessment tasks and to catch up and review your assessment. We are hoping to complete it this week so we can then move on to Food Technology with Mrs Hewlett for 3 weeks and E Textiles with Mrs Priest for 3 weeks (then we swap classes).

    Welcome back from lockdown! We look forward to seeing you. Please note the new locations and teachers for the next week or 2:

    Group 1 (mostly 8W1) will be in W6 (PPR)

    Group 2 (mostly 8W2) will be in W1 (CHE)
                                                                
    Group 3 made up of 11 from each class will be in the centre space with TSY - please keep to your homebase bubble.

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 1 of Term 4! This week we will be starting to learn about the bookmark we will be creating. I will be your teacher for the next 3 weeks before you get to go to Mrs Hewlett's class and try your MasterChef skills or Mr Symons's class to try your board game skills. Please join the GC using this code: b7bd4ca

    On Monday we will be watching a video about E Textiles and learning about E Textiles. After that we will be completing a research on bookmarks.

    On Wednesday we will be learning the basics like making a knot and threading a needle, as well as showing you the process of how we will sew our bookmark and learn about its components.

    On Thursday you will be researching bookmarks online and sketching a bookmark design that you are going to carry out next week. Exciting times!!

    Success Criteria:

    I have watched all videos, attempted all given tasks and completed a bookmark sketch.

    FOOD TECHNOLOGY WITH MRS HEWLETT

    Kia ora Y8 welcome to Food Technology Term 4. As you know we are doing 3 courses this term in Tech. Please use Google Classroom b7bd4ca

    We are exploring Codes of Practice. We will focus on practical application of Measuring/ Food Preparation & Food Safety/Kitchen Safety/Correct techniques. We will plan and do - make a number of recipes that show we can follow the correct codes of practice. We will reflect on our learning and be able to relate this learning to our Whanau context of Space by looking at Space Food and freeze drying of food for Space Travel

    Learning Intentions- we are learning....
    • About the rules and routines to follow in the Food Tech room

    • How to follow a recipe

    • How to work safely in the food tech room

    • About the importance of hygiene when cooking - kitchen/ food and personal hygiene.

    • How to prepare food correctly

    • About food for space- food preservation methods 

    • SO that we can cook food correctly and safely in the Food Tech Room and relate this to Food for Space.

    On Wednesday you will be out on your Biking Programme and on Thursday I will not see you due to it being Teacher Only Day.
