    Kia ora 8F2 and welcome back! Im super excited to finally have the chance to teach you guys this year! From what I hear you are a super sporty class and look forward to having some fun and laughs with you all this year. For term one we will be focusing on " Face off". This context will be around us completing challenges in class and building a year 8 Forest whanau positive culture.

      Kia ora 8F2, 

      Through the context "Face off" in PE we will be looking into interpersonal skills. I have placed you into different teams. All these teams are mixed ability. We will be doing different challenges every Friday in PE. This week the interpersonal skill we are focusing on is communication.

      Kia ora 8F2,

      I hope you are all well and staying safe in your bubbles!! It is a very strange start to the term by teaching online but I am excited to see how it goes.

      I will be available on my emails whenever we have a class so PLEASE email me if you have any questions!

      This term we are going to be doing a context called "Superstars". This context is going to focus on improving our fitness levels across different fitness areas.

      I have email you all a google slide show with what I would like you to complete each sessions. If you are unsure on any of the activities please flick me an email!

      The two words we are exploring this week are: 

      Speed: Speed is the ability to move quickly across the ground or move limbs rapidly to grab or throw.

      Agility: Agility is the ability to move and change direction and position of the body quickly and effectively while under control. 

      Below are the 3 sessions for this week!

      Session one: Complete 4 of the fitness tests and record your results on your fitness progress log (remember this is a private fitness log- will only be seen  by you and me.) Your fitness log can be found on the google classroom.

      Session two: We are focusing on improving our speed and agility.

      Task one: For this session you need a timer which you set for 20 mins. You then can use the online dice. Whatever number comes up you complete that exercise. You can choose between the red or black exercises.

      Task two:

      This task is to focus on our words of the week speed. Watch the video and then try and complete each of the drills once. I don't have cones at my house so when I did it I used shoes for my cones and it worked well!!


      Session three: We are focusing on improving our speed and agility.

      Task one:  Today’s task is to complete the Pyramid workout. You need to select which level you are at and complete the pyramid at that level. Let me know if you are unsure about  any of the exercises.

      Task two: 

      This task focuses on improving your agility. It is important to push yourself to go as hard as you can in this task. Complete it twice and see if you can improve your time the second time through. Again, when I did this task I used shoes as my cones.1

      Kia ora 8F2,

      I hope your first week of superstars went well and you got yourselves moving! It is so important to stay active at this time!!

      The two words we will be exploring this week are

      Power:  the ability to exert a maximal force in as short a time as possible, as in accelerating, jumping and throwing implements.

      Strength: the ability to carry out work against a resistance. Strength is the maximal force you can apply against a load.

      Below are week 2 sessions! Enjoy

      Session one: Complete final 3 of the fitness tests that you did not complete last week and record your results on your fitness progress log (remember this is a private fitness log- will only be seen  by you and me.)

      Session two: We are focusing on improving our strength and power

      Task one:

      Your task for this session is to complete this body combat class. Open this up on your computer and follow through the class. It is a great way to get your heart rate up and good fun.

      Task two: This task is to focus on our word of the week  power. 

      How far can you do a standing board jump. You need to place your feet shoulder width apart. Use your arms to start creating momentum by swinging them back and forward. Squat down and try and jump as far as possible landing on two feet. Repeat this x5. See if you can get a bit further each time. 

      Session three: We are focusing on improving our power and strength.

      Task one: Today’s session is all about getting abs of steel! Complete the following exercises and choose the level that suits you. If you are at level one complete 4 sets of each exercise, level two complete 6 and level three complete 8 sets of each exercise.

      Task two: This task is to focus on our words of the week strength.

      Arm wrestling!! For task two you need to go and get someone in your family to have an arm wrestle with you. This can be one of your parents or siblings just ensure they are from your bubble. Do the best of three! See how your strength goes.

      Week three: Words of the week- Balance and Coordination

      Balance: is the ability to stay upright or stay in control of body movement

      Coordination: the ability to move two or more body parts under control, smoothly and efficiently.

      Week three: Session 1

      Session one: We are focusing on improving our coordination.

      Task one: Just Dance- This task involves you Dancing! You need to go online to Just Dance and complete two different Just Dance routines. This will help to improve coordination. Here is some teachers completing their Just Dance tasks! Feel free to send in a video of yourself doing a Just Dance.


      Task two: Juggle- This task is going to be the focus for this lesson. I would like you to learn how to juggle. Below is a video of how to juggle. Watch the video in stages. If you don't have 3 balls at some you could use socks, fruit or even toilet paper. Take a photo of yourself and send it to me.

      Week three: Session 2

      Session two: We are focusing on improving our balance.

      Task one: Stork Stance  You need to complete the stork stance. This is about working on lower balance and stability. Watch the video below and time yourself as to how long you can stay in the stork stance. 

      Task two: Stick Balance- Have a look at Miss Young’s video for this task!. For this task you need to find a stick. It can be one from outside or one you have inside. Your task is to try and balance the stick on one of your fingers for as long as you can. If you really want to challenge yourself try doing it with your eyes closed. 

      Week three: Session 3

      Session Three: We are focusing on improving our balance and Coordination.

      Task One: Ladder drills: Try out some balance and coordination training using a ladder made with chalk. See some examples on the video link.


      Task Two: Coordination wall catch For this task you will need a ball and a wall/ fence. Time yourself (30secs) How many wall catches in 30 seconds. (Easy = 2 handed catch. Medium = 1 hand catch. Hard= 2 balls 1 hand each)

      Challenge of the week!

      Handstand challenge!! Can you put on your school jacket while completing a handstand. Watch the video below and see if while balancing on the wall if you can put your jacket on.

      Kia ora 8F2! I love how involved you are all getting in Physical education while at home!! This week the focus is reactions and Flexibility!!

      Flexibility:  the capacity of a joint or muscle to move through its full range of motion. Flexibility is specific to a particular movement or joints, and the degree of flexibility can vary around the body.

      Reactions: Reaction time is the ability to respond quickly to a stimulus. It important in many sports and day to day activities, though it is not often measured. Simple reaction time is the time taken between a stimulus and movement e.g., sprint start.

      Week four: Session one

      Session one: We are focusing on improving our Flexibility 

      Task one: Dynamic/ Plyometric Stretching- For your warm up watch and complete this video. This will get your body warmed up and ready for your Yoga session.

      Task two: Yoga class- Your task for this session is to complete this Yoga class. Open this up on your computer and follow through the class. It is important for your spiritual well-being to sometimes stop and slow yourself down. It is important we are focusing on all 4 aspects of our well-being.

      Task three: Sit & Reach- To test your lower leg flexibility (Hamstrings) View the video and test yourself.

      Week four: Session two

      Session two: We are focusing on improving our reactions.

      Task one: Skipping: For your warm up you need to complete 5 minutes of skipping. This is a good way to start us focusing on our reactions. If you have a skipping rope use this or you could use a bit of rope or just complete the exercises without a rope and get your heart rate up.

      Task two: Ruler test:

      For this task you need a ruler. You will need another person in your bubble to drop the ruler from the top of your hand. The aim is to catch the ruler between your index finger and thumb. You can look at your score on the ruler. Repeat this test three times and add your best score.

      Task three: Ball catch Get ups: Watch the video of Mr Nutt doing his get ups. You need to lie on the ground and throw the ball into the air. While the ball is in the air you need to stand up and then catch the ball standing up right. There are 2 progressions to make it easier or harder.

      Week four: Session three

      Session Three: We are focusing on improving our flexibility and reactions.

      Task One:  Handstand

       

      Your task is to complete a headstand. Follow this video to ensure that you are safe when doing it. Time yourself to see how long you can last for.

      Task Two:  Reaction catch- check out the videos of Ravi and Orlando in 8F2

      For this task you need two objects from your house. You need to get one member of your bubble to hold an object in either hand. You need to stand 1 metre away. The person holding the objects needs to drop one at a time and you need to try catch it before the object hits the ground. Watch the video below for a demonstration.

      Challenge of the week

      Bottle challenge! Your challenge for this week is to use a ball and a bottle. You need to bounce your drink bottle off the ball. You can use any ball. Check out Miss Young’s video.

      Words of the week

      Stamina:  the ability to sustain prolonged physical or mental effort.

      Endurance: Muscular endurance is the ability of a muscle or group of muscles to sustain repeated contractions against a resistance for an extended period of time.

      Session one: We are focusing on improving our Stamina  

      Task one: Run longer circuit: For this task you need to complete the circuit as your warm up. You need to select which level you believe you are at and complete the circuit that many times.  Remember this is your warm up so you are building into it. For example the first time you do the circuit it may be at 50%, second time 70% and building up.


      Task two- Hundy club:  For this session your aim is to keep yourself going. It is all about your stamina both physically and mentally. You want to push yourself as hard as you can. You need to complete 100 of each exercise. You could break each of the sets up into 20/25 reps. The aim is to do it as fast as possible.

      Session two: We are focusing on improving our Endurance.

      Task one: Plank: Holding a plank is all about muscle endurance. Can you beat Miss Young’s plank hold of 3.03mins! Don’t let your bum go too high or your hips drop too low! Let me know if you beat the time!


      Task two: GRIT: muscle endurance: Your task for this session is to complete this GRIT class. It is high intensity and perfect for improving your endurance.  Open this up on your computer and follow through the class. You do not need any equipment. Good Luck!

      Session Three: We are focusing on improving our Stamina and endurance.

      Task one Wall sit: A wall sit requires stamina and endurance both physically and mentally. Can you beat Mr Nutt’s wall sit! His time was 4.30mins. Let us know if you beat it!


      Task two Boxercise: Check out the video below. This is a way at home you can build on your endurance and stamina. You need to push yourself throughout the workout. Get your heart racing!!

      Task: Can you beat yourself! Its challenge week! 

      Your first challenge for the week is can you beat yourself!  You will be completing  all the fitness tests we did in week one and week two. I have returned your fitness progress logs to you. Your aim is to improve on your test results from last time. Record all your scores in week 5 column.

      Hopefully all the training you have been doing in lockdown pays off

      This week we are going to be beginning to prepare for cross country!

      Year 8s are such an important year group for cross country so it would be amazing to have 100% attendance and everyone trying their hardest!!
