The expectation of you is high as we believe that Visual Art is just as important as any other subject.

    Practising your observational drawing

In order to give you a fair assessment of your drawing ability we need to give you a variety of drawing tasks.

By Year 8 to get a "Beyond' level, we expect  that you can copy a drawing completed by an artist and show correct accuracy and proportion of shapes as well as use a shading pencil to copy the tonal variations in the piece.

We have three separate drawing tasks for you to work on over the next two weeks and you must use a 6 B pencil, for at least two of the drawings and then if you like, you could try using a pen for the third work.

Look carefully at these two pictures and choose ONE of them to copy accurately into your drawing book

Watch carefully how your teacher demonstrates using different pressures with the pencil to create the different tones and remember.... look, draw, look, draw, look!

Copy this information onto your page

    HELPFUL TIPS

    1.  Draw the outline shapes first and look closely to get accurate proportion

    2.  Draw the shape that's at the bottom of the page first as usually the other shapes will be overlapping in behind this one.

    3.  Try to look really closely to find where the highlights and shadows fall.  There will always be a light source showing on objects from somewhere.

    Using pen to draw with

    TASK:
After watching the video choose two of these pictures to draw.  Take up half a page for each one so that you have two drawings on one page.  Around the outside of your final drawings demonstrate with examples, the different types of marks you can make using a pen.

You should notice that the way the highlights and shadows are coloured is a different way of mark-making to the shoe drawings in pencil.

You may want to set aside a page for practising your different pen mark-making so that you can create the best copy possible. Try some hatching, cross-hatching, scribble and short and long line mark making for your practise.

    ASESSMENT TASK

You can choose whether you would like to use pencil or pen but this task is your assessment to show your drawing level.

You have two days to do it.
