    1. SNAP task. Place all the cards face up. The caller calls out a colour name  and the rest of the group try to grab the cards which match that colour as soon as possible. The winner is the one who grabs the most cards.  Students take turns to be the caller.

    Favourite colour Survey. Each person makes a table of nine colours. Go around and ask everybody in the class what his/ her favourite colour is and add that person’s name to the cell. The objective is to find out the most popular colour in the class. The first person to find the answer is the winner.

    2.  Maze. In pairs, one has to give instructions to the other, who is blindfolded  to get out of the maze.

    3. Work in pairs. Draw five square boxes to represent five directions. 

    One caller – gives instructions and tells the other where a number card should be. The other follows instructions and puts the number card in the right place.  Then swap roles.

    Year 7 Mandarin Assessment Instructions


    Make a Chinese short film with the topic “Having Fun with Chinese”.


    1. The film is not longer than 5 minutes.

    2. Work in a group of up to five students.

    3. Only  Chinese language is spoken in the film.

    4. The film could be in the form of a video, an animation, or a cartoon.

    5. Everybody in the group has a chance to speak Mandarin in the film.

    6. Include a variety of vocabulary and sentence patterns in your film, especially the ones we have learnt by Week 3 Term 2. Resources can be found on MHOL and the Google Classroom.

    7. The film must be 100% original material. Copyrighted music or images should not be used, unless there is proof of authorised use.

    8. Dialogue must be original speech and not dubbed.

    9. Submit your script and video (through unlisted YouTube link) on MHOL by 21:00  21 June 2019.

    The script must contain the following

    Title –  English & Chinese

    Cast (or Characters) – it is easy to identify each student in the film

    Storyline – can be in English

    Dialogue – Mandarin only

    Assessment Instructions


    We are making  Mandarin picture books for the MHJC Arts and Cultural Showcase.  The best books will be displayed to the community outside the theatre on Thursday, 26 September 2019. 


    You can choose any of the following topics. 


    Topic One  - Self Introduction 


    Work individually  and create a picture book to introduce yourself and your family. 


    1. Your picture book could be either digitally made or hand drawn. 

    2. It must be at least 10 pages long.

    3. On each page there is a picture and a simple sentence in Mandarin ( characters and pinyin) and English, to accompany that picture

    4. Your picture book needs to contain the following information:

    your name, age, Chinese zodiac sign, food you like to eat , your family members’ names and ages, their birth signs

    6. You submit your work by  the due date, Friday, 20th September 2019 

    7. You present your book ( read out aloud ) in front of the class in the beginning of Term 4 2019 

      

    Topic Two  - Self selected 


    Work individually  or in a group ( up to 3 people) and create a picture book in any topic of your interests, such as  a fairytale, a science fiction or a textbook. 


    1. Your picture book could be either digitally made or hand drawn. 

    2. It must be at least 10 pages long.

    3. On each page there is a picture and a simple sentence in Mandarin (characters and pinyin) and English, to accompany that picture

    4. All the images and sentences need to be culturally appropriate

      1. SNAP task. Place all the cards face up. The caller calls out a colour name  and the rest of the group try to grab the cards which match that colour as soon as possible. The winner is the one who grabs the most cards.  Students take turns to be the caller.

      3. Survey Task

      Favourite colour Survey. Each person makes a table of nine colours. Go around and ask everybody in the class what his/ her favourite colour is and add that person’s name to the cell. The objective is to find out the most popular colour in the class. The first person to find the answer is the winner.
