Welcome to Art 2024~!
The context for your start to the year in Water whānau is all about 'We are all in this together- He waka eke noa'. We will be creating a mixed media artwork which explores your identity and reflects your sense of belongingness to self, family and the community.
I am looking forward to exploring the exciting world of Art with you all this year.

Students are tasked with creating a paper bag that individuals from New Zealand can buy and carry to the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. The design should visually represent the culture of New Zealand, incorporating imagery such as mountains, landscapes, birds, plants, patterns, and symbols that are significant to Aotearoa.

Week 4 and 5
From Week 4, we will begin our first unit, ‘My heritage’ mixed media artwork, inspired by artist model Reuben Paterson. This task ties in with the Year 7 Water Whānau context: He Waka Eke Noa: We are all in this together. For this task you will explore your identity through symbols of your cultural heritage and integrating it with Māori patterns to create a mixed media artwork.

Week 6 + 8: Create final A3 background (Personalised Tukutuku + Kaleidoscope) and paint final cultural flowers + objects onto final wet strength paper

Week 9: We will draw and paint cultural flowers onto separate paper from our Tukutuku background. Glitter will be dusted onto the cultural flowers as the final touch and hot glue gun will be used to stick down the flowers onto the Tukutuku background.

Kia Ora Maunga students,
Welcome to Art- Term 2.
Based on the context for Maunga whānau for the Year 7 students in Term 2, in Visual Art we will be looking into the idea of 'Guardianship'. We will be creating a 3D Korowai Cloak mixed media artwork, inspired by New Zealand artist Sofia Minson.

Hello Year 7 Visual arts students :)
This week, we will use our time in class to finish off our final Korowai concept design and practice developing some drawing + painting skills, as these skills will be needed to successfully complete our final mixed media artwork. -
Hello Year 7 artists! :)
This week and next week, our focus will be to complete painting our halo + background and to use tonal shading to complete the drawing of your faces.

Welcome to Week 6. This week, we will focus on completing our backgrounds using black paint and completing our detailed pencil sketch of our self-portraiture. For those students who have completed this, come and see Mrs Lee, as you will begin creating the final Korowai.Below are different learning intentions, based on the task you are working on this week :)

- We are PLANNING... to design and produce a 3D mixed media Korowai unit, inspired by Sofia Minson so that we can present our interpretation of Kaitiakitanga.
This week, we will continue working on our Korowai unit, focussing specifically on our 3-D Korowai piece.

Hello Year 7 artists :)I have really enjoyed spending time with you all this Term. You all have worked with resilience and focus, which have led to the creation of stunning Korowai artworks. I am super proud of you all!If you have not yet handed in your completed work, please make sure to do this preferably by the end of the session on Wednesday. Friday will be the last chance for you to submit your assessment.
REFLECT / WHAIWHAKAARO learning intentions:
- We are REFLECTING... review and evaluate our understanding of composition in design and its effectiveness in the final artwork.
- We are REFLECTING... assess the progress of our learning journey with controlling our chosen media.

From this week (Wk 3) we will begin our assessment. You will be designing your own eco bag which will be sold as part of the 2028 Olympics merchandise. I am so excited to begin this project with you all, I look forward to seeing all your creative eco bags!

This week, we will begin working towards producing a FINAL concept. We are one step close to beginning on our final label, how exciting :)

This week, we will continue working on our ECO bag designs. Students are working at different stages, however by the end of this week, I am hoping that all students are working on their FINAL design (not their draft) :)

This week, we will continue working on our eco bag designs. Many of us have started on their final designs, however some of us are still working on their final drafts. By the start of next week, everyone needs to be working on their final design (on cartridge paper).

This week, we will continue to work on our final ECO bag designs. This week we have x2 sessions, x1 session in Week 9 and then x1 session in Week 10 before you submit your work. That is only x4 sessions in total, which is not too much time. Some students may need to begin working at home, as well as during Waananga Wednesday :)

This week we will continue working on our final ECO BAG design. You will submit your work next week (WEEK 10) on Wednesday OR on Friday at the latest. Your works are looking awesome, I am proud of your progress made so far! :)

We have made it! We have now reached the last week of Term 3 and the last week of Art for 2024. You have all worked so well this Term and I am proud of the progress you made, throughout the Term. This week, you will make the final touch ups and will submit your work on Wednesday or Friday (the latest).

Kia Ora Forest whānau Year 7 artists!
Welcome to Visual Arts- Term 4. Our first task will be to design our art folder pages :)

From Week 2, we will begin our project- designing your own paper cup and plate which will be used for a celebration/festival of your choice. This theme ties in with Forest Whānau's context for this Term, which is WHAKAHARI- Celebrations and festivals.

This week, we will finalise our concept ideas and then add colour to your chosen final design (x1 cup and x1 plate).

This week, we will continue working on our cups and plates. You will use dry media to add colour and to complete your cup/plate.
