Weekly outline

  • General

    Kia Ora everyone,

    Welcome to Art 2024.

The context for your start to the year in Water whānau is all about 'We are all in this together- He waka eke noa'. We will be creating a mixed media artwork which explores your identity and reflects your sense of belongingness to self, family and the community.

I am looking forward to exploring the exciting world of Art with you all this year.

    Mrs Lee.

  • Term 1 / Week 2 +3

    Hi everyone!
In Weeks 2 and 3, we will be working on designing our Visual Art cover pages.

  • Term 1- Week 4 + 5

From Week 4, we will begin our first unit, ‘My heritage’ mixed media artwork, inspired by                        artist model Reuben Paterson. This task ties in with the Year 7 Water Whānau context: He Waka Eke Noa: We are all in this together. For this task you will explore your identity through symbols of your cultural heritage and integrating it with Māori patterns to create a mixed media artwork.

  • Term 1- Week 6 + 8 (Week 7: Water Whānau camp)

Remember that in Week 7 there are no Art sessions, due to Water Whānau camp.

Week 6 + 8: Create final A3 background (Personalised Tukutuku + Kaleidoscope) and paint final cultural flowers + objects onto final wet strength paper

  • Term 1/ Week 9-10

Week 9: We will draw and paint cultural flowers onto separate paper from our Tukutuku background. Glitter will be dusted onto the cultural flowers as the final touch and hot glue gun will be used to stick down the flowers onto the Tukutuku background.

  • Term 2/ Week 1 + 2

    Kia Ora Maunga students,

    Welcome to Art- Term 2.

Based on the context for Maunga whānau for the Year 7 students in Term 2, in Visual Art we will be looking into the idea of 'Guardianship'. We will be creating a 3D Korowai Cloak mixed media artwork, inspired by New Zealand artist Sofia Minson.

  • Term 2/ Week 3

Hello Year 7 Visual arts students :)

This week, we will use our time in class to finish off our final Korowai concept design and practice developing some drawing + painting skills, as these skills will be needed to successfully complete our final mixed media artwork.
