Kia ora Year 9 Tech students,
Assessment 1 - outcome development & evaluation
For the next 5 weeks of term 3, we'll design, model and build a candle holder.
In the first assessment on this process (in week 5), you'll be assessed on:
1. your research into designs, purpose and materials for making a candle holder and
2. your finished wooden candle holder. -
Assessment 2 Outcome development & evaluation
For the next 4 weeks, you will create a prototype of a phone holder, before designing and building a finished product in acrylic.
For Assessment 2, you'll be assessed on the prototype (model) that you create, as part of the process. -

The tasks which you have done and will be doing till week 4 are outlined below.Acrylic Phone Holder
Paearu Angitu / Success Criteria: I can/have...
- successfully completed my;
a. Phone holder three dimensional Drawings
b. Prototype
c. Inkscape drawing for Laser cutting
d. Model using the acrylic bender
Hei Mahi / Activities:1. Draw up what your phone holder will look like - including measurements and note any specifics of the design
2. Provide photos of your drawing/plan top (Birds eye), end and side view of the phone holder
3. Create a cardboard model of your Phone holder focusing on creating a unique design. Model must show unique
design features. Take the exact measurements from the drawings which you did for the phone holder.
4. Once you have done the model, take the exact measurements and draw it in the Inkscape software for Laser
cutting(acrylic).
5. The last step will be to make your acrylic phone holder using the acrylic bender.
6. Then write up a detailed descriptive Notes/Report about your Phone holder Design and explain why it is unique.
a. Refer to your initial phone holder drawing.
b. Include in your report reference to any changes, alterations or modifications you will make to the prototype
resulting from the opportunity of the model / mock up.Mahi Kāinga / Homework:

3. Task 3 - Draw 2 different conceptual design idea for your Koha Christmas Tree by using 3D
free hand sketches.
4. Task 4 - Functional Model Prototype - Use cardboard or paper to produce a model prototype

- Complete the Inkscape design for the Koha Christmas Tree
- Laser cut the design and do the finishing with acrylic paint
- Complete the base with wood finishings
- Glue the laser cut MDF christmas tree design on the base
Mahi Kāinga / Homework:Watch U-Tube videos about Inkscape and practice that, to have better and clear understanding of the drawing
techniques.
