The term 1 context for Wai Whanau’s year 7’s was Turangawaewae- my place to stand. Our main goal was to help the year 7’s find their place at Mission Heights Junior College, while exploring their own identity. In Maths we have been looking at scales, measurements and unit conversions. In PEH we have been learning about movement concepts and motor skills in the context of orienteering. For this task students will be using their orienteering skills and methods of approximating length to navigate a course set up at Mission Heights.

Year 7 Wai Whānau PEH Assessment #2

Your context this term in Wai Whānau has been ‘Aotearoa: Where Legends are Born’

In PEH, we have explored different kiwi sporting legends and the sports they have played.  Some of the sports we have tried include basketball, football, touch rugby.  We have displayed positive attitudes towards learning new sports and working together in a team. Many of the kiwi legends we have explored have an athletics background and we will continue to learn more about this sport for our assessment.

We have now come to our athletics preparation for term 3 & 4. For this event we will focus on learning the skills that are required for each Athletics event.

      These Athletics events include:

      - Shot put

      - Discus

      - Long Jump

      - High Jump

      - 1500m

      - 800m

      - 400m

      - 200m

      - 100m

This assessment will be a practical assessment and you will be required to display technical skills and ability. You will be graded in each Athletics event and get an overall grade.
