    Bienvenidos a la nueva clase 2023!!! 

    This is going to be an exciting year full of fun, challenges, and lots of good times!

     

    As Y8SPA class I have new expectations for you and for our class, in order to have a successful year in this class, we need to work together. 


    Please do not hesitate to contact me at mmartin@mhjc.school.nz if you have any questions or concerns about our planned activities or assessments. You chose to continue Spanish as an optional subject. This means your commitment to the language is really strong. We are going to learn Spanish twice a week, you will have two assessments per year. All of you have previous Spanish skills, we have the opportunity to work consistently to improve your Spanish knowledge this year.

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING vocabulary related to personal information: name, age, nationality, interests, hobbies, family members
    • We are EXPLORING basic grammar concepts: verb conjugation (present tense), personal pronouns, gender and number agreement, basic sentence structure.
    • We are EXPLORING cultural aspects related to personal identity in the Spanish-speaking world, such as naming conventions, family values, and popular hobbies and interests.
    • We are EXPLORING listening and speaking skills: practicing comprehension of spoken Spanish and being able to communicate basic personal information.
    • We are EXPLORING reading and writing skills: being able to read and write basic sentences and paragraphs about oneself in Spanish.

    Task description: In this assessment, students will prepare a presentation with the following information:

    Your introduction should include the following information:

    1. A greeting to the recipients

    2. Your:

    • Name

    • Age

    • Birthday 

    • Nationality 

    • Where you live

    • How many languages do you speak.

    1. Description of how many people there are in your family and who are they (mother, father, brother etc)

    2. Mention their names and age.

    3. A photo of your family (this has to be a real photo of your family or a fake one, BUT the description has to match up with the photo you are including)

    * All will be able to recognise 6 different types of housing 

    * All will be able to recognise 9 different locations for housing 

    * Most should be able to give information about the type of house they live in & say where it is 

    * Most should be able to understand Level 3 reading texts in Spanish.

    * Some could be able to produce a Level 3 piece of writing in Spanish.

    EXPLORE / TŪHURA learning intentions:

    • We are EXPLORING Spanish festivals so that we understand their origins, the events that shaped them, and their role in the local communities. It offers insights into Spain's rich history and the collective memory of its people.

    For the last weeks of the term, we are going to be learning about Spanish festivals.

    This learning goes beyond mere facts and dates. It will enable you to connect with another culture, appreciate its diversity, and develop a broader perspective of the world. It fosters intercultural understanding, enhances language skills, and promotes a sense of global citizenship.




    Success Criteria I can/have

    • Gain a deeper understanding of Spanish culture, customs, and values. It promotes cultural awareness, empathy, and appreciation for diversity.
    • Be exposed to authentic language use, idioms, and expressions related to specific celebrations, enhancing their linguistic proficiency.
