    Kia ora and welcome to Y9 Hospitality. 

    My name is Mrs Priest and I will be your teacher this year. I am excited to get to know you all. A little bit about myself...I was born in Germany, have 3 kids, have studied Food Technology, Health & Safety and Business and lastly Teaching at Massey University, have worked in the Food Industry for over a decade before starting to teach.

    This week will be about getting to know each other and the food room.

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 4 of Term 1!

    I bet you are looking forward to our second practical: Chocolate Chip Muffins. We will be making them on Thursday. On Tuesday we will be continuing to look at food safety and kitchen safety.

    - I know how to measure ingredients correctly

    - I know to be aware of grease fires

    On Tuesday we will be looking at Flowcharts and how they are used. 

    On Thursday we will be making Savoury Muffins

    This week I will be on camp from Wed to Fri. On Tuesday we will learn about the Muffin Technique and on Thursday you will complete a fun Toffee Pop activity to give you a better understanding of what a Food Technologist does..

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 8 of Term 1.

    This week in our theory lesson, we will be looking at advertising and marketing. I would also like for you to start selecting a muffin recipe that you want to trial. Once you have selected a recipe, please forward this to Mrs Priest.

    For our practical, we will be making a blueberry muffin.

    On Tuesday we will looking at the various techniques needed to make great muffins.. On Thursday you will be making your chosen muffin recipe. You will evaluate whether you like that recipe and want to use it to sell those muffins at the basketball games.

    Well done on your muffin creations last week, very impressive!

    This week you get a chance to:

    - check with your team if you are happy with the muffin recipe you have chosen or if you want to make any changes and plan these changes

    - maybe start thinking of drafting a marketing poster of your chosen muffin - what colours will you use, what specials might you offer, what pictures will you use to get the customers' attention?

    On Thursday we will be making sushi so you have a break from making muffins. We also need to be super quick as it is the final sessions of the term and I will need to put the washing on.

    On Tuesday we will be reviewing our muffin knowledge in preparation for the written muffin assessment which will take place on Tuesday in Week 3 of Term 2.

    On Thursday you have one more opportunity to refine your recipe in preparation for selling your muffins on Wednesday after school in Week 3 during basketball outside the gym.

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 4 of Term 2

    I will only see you on Thursday this week as Y9s are staying home on Tuesday due to the teacher strike.

    On Thursday you can trial your muffin recipe again, the one you want to use to sell the muffins.

    Next week, Week 5, on Wednesday after school we will be baking the muffins and then selling them outside the gym.

    Please remember I have switched Practical days so on Tuesday we will be making Nachos.

    On Thursday I will be attending a conference so there will be time to review the muffin info on GC. Remember your written task will happen on Tuesday 30th May. I will add a task on GC in case you need a new activity.

    Also remember that on Wednesday we will be meeting after school to bake and sell the muffins.
