    Kia ora and welcome to Y9 Food Technology. 

    My name is Mrs Priest and I will be your teacher this year. I am excited to get to know you all. A little bit about myself...I was born in Germany, have 3 kids, have studied Food Technology, Health & Safety and Business and lastly Teaching at Massey University, have worked in the Food Industry for over a decade before starting to teach.

    This week will be about getting to know each other and the food room.

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 4 of Term 1!

    I bet you are looking forward to our second practical: hash browns, also known as German potato pancakes. We will be making them on Thursday. On Tuesday we will continue to learn about the basics in Food Safety and Kitchen Safety in W9.

    Success Criteria:

    - I know how to measure ingredients correctly

    - I know to be aware of grease fires

    This week I will be on camp from Wed to Fri. On Tuesday we will be learning about the Technology Design Process and I will introduce the Pancake Journal to you. On Thursday you will complete a fun Toffee Pop activity to give you a better understanding of what a Food Technologist does..

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 7 of Term 1. 

    Unfortunately I will only see you once this week as on Thursday the members of the teachers union will be on strike. 

    On Tuesday, we will be continuing to complete tasks in the Pancake Journal. Hopefully by now you have interviewed a stakeholder and can write the brief and add your personalised attributes.

    We might even be able to start researching suitable pancake recipes.

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 8 of Term 1.

    This week you will be continuing with your Pancake Assessment journal. By now you should have interviewed your stakeholders, documented their responses, written a brief and are compiling a list of attributes that you want your pancake design to have. You should also be researching recipes and images of pancakes that match the pancake that your stakeholder has described. Once you have settled on a pancake recipe, please forward this to Mrs Priest so she can order the ingredients for you in order to make your prototype in Term 2.

    During our practical lesson, we will be making Japanese Pancakes.

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    On Tuesday we will continuing with our Pancake Journal, looking at Task 6. On Thursday you will be making your pancake prototype and you will give it to your stakeholder for feedback. Remember to document the feedback and take a photo of your creation.

  • 3 April - 9 April

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 10 of Term 1.

    Well done on your pancake creations last week, very impressive!

    This week you get a chance to:

    - use the stakeholder feedback to plan any changes to the recipe or presentation and give Ms Priest a list of ingredients needed in Term 3

    - update the Pancake Journal and add the photo of your prototype and paste in the feedback of your stakeholder. You can also include your modified recipe for the final pancake once you have reached an agreement with your team on your next steps.

    On Thursday we will be making sushi so you have a break from making pancakes. We also need to be super quick as it is the final session of the term and I will need to put the washing on and dry it.
