    Kia ora and welcome to Y10 Food Technology. 

    My name is Mrs Priest and I will be your teacher this year. I am excited to get to know you all. A little bit about myself...I was born in Germany, have 3 kids, have studied Food Technology, Health & Safety and Business and lastly Teaching at Massey University, have worked in the Food Industry for over a decade before starting to teach.

    This week will be about getting to know each other and the food room.

    welcome to Week 7 of Term 1! This week we will be starting to look at the science behind making certain foods. We start off by looking at baking ingredients. This week we are looking at flour.

    This week we will be looking at and practising another baking method. This one is called "Rubbing in"  and we will be using that technique to make scones. On Wednesday we will be learning about leavening agents.

    On Monday we will be making Cookies using the creaming method as well as making the pizza dough for next week using yeast.

    Sorry for my absence last week. On Monday we will be making your baking trial where you sent me the recipe as part of your written assessment.

    On Wednesday you can continue to work on your written assessment, describing the function of each of your baked goods' ingredients. You can also reflect on how your baking went on Monday and what you would like to change for next time.

    I will only see you on Monday as Y10s will stay home on Wednesday due to the teachers striking.

    On Monday we will be making Pasta Carbonara.

    On Wednesday it is your last day for in class time to finish your meal plan, explain what nutrients are found in the various food groups and what the nutrient's functions are. Many resources can be found on GC. The Above and Beyond questions are on GC and the assessment is due by Friday.
