    Kia ora and welcome to Y10 Hospitality. 

    My name is Mrs Priest and I will be your teacher this year. I am excited to get to know you all. A little bit about myself...I was born in Germany, have 3 kids, have studied Food Technology, Health & Safety and Business and lastly Teaching at Massey University, have worked in the Food Industry for over a decade before starting to teach.

    This week will be about getting to know each other and the food room.

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 7 of Term 1

    This week we will be starting our assessment topic. Coffee! We have a coffee machine and will learn how to be mini baristas! Exciting!

    On Monday we will be baking a Sponge Cake and on Wednesday we will start learning about coffee.

    1. 27 March - 2 April

      Kia ora...and welcome to Week 9 of Term 1.

      On Monday we will be making Cookies using the creaming method and on Wednesday we will be looking at how the milks steamer is used as well as the different types of espresso coffees available.

      On Monday we will be making Quesadillas and on Wednesday we will be looking at how the milks steamer is used as well as the different types of espresso coffees available. Last Wednesday was Teacher Strike and we have not yet completed that activity.

      Kia ora...and welcome to Week 1 of Term 2

      As Monday is a Teacher Only Day, I will only see you on Wednesday. On Wednesday we will try to make water and soap look like frothy milk. We are practising with water and soap so we don't waste milk.

      While one table at a time is practising using the espresso machine, you will watch videos uploaded on GC called "What's really in our Food" focussing on coffee. There is a worksheet with questions relating to the videos.

      On Monday we are making Anzac Biscuits as requested. On Wednesday you will be frothing milk and making yourself a hot chocolate. While you are waiting for your turn, there is a task on GC for you to complete on coffee grinder.

      On Wednesday we will cover the last coffee topic, the impact of coffee on society.  We are investigating the social and environmental and sustainability impact that coffee has around the world.

      I am planning on completing the assessment Wed next week, so it might be time to review the theory now.

    18. 24 July - 30 July

      Kia ora...and welcome to Week 2 of Term 3.

      On Monday we will be making Chicken Pad Thai and on Wendesday we will be starting our new topic, creating a snack food. We will also finalise who will come and make espressos on Thursday for SLC.

    19. 31 July - 6 August

      On Monday we will be making Tacos and on Wednesday we will start our next assessment by using a Technology Design Journal. We will be planning on making a snack food in groups to give to your friends.

      Last week we looked at costing a recipe and the difference between service and hospitality. So this week we will do what I planned for last week. Looking at stakeholders and the Technology Design Process.

      On Monday we will be making energy/bliss balls, two flavours.

      On Monday we will be making Pasta Carbonara but without the bacon.

      On Wednesday you will continue to work through the Technology Design Process to develop a snack food for your friend. I will collect your recipes for ordering on Wednesday too for your trial in Week 7.
