    Kia ora and welcome to Y9 Food Technology. 

    My name is Mrs Priest and I will be your teacher this year. I am excited to get to know you all. A little bit about myself...I was born in Germany, have 3 kids, have studied Food Technology, Health & Safety and Business and lastly Teaching at Massey University, have worked in the Food Industry for over a decade before starting to teach.

    This week will be about getting to know each other and the food room.

    I bet you are looking forward to our first practical: pancakes. We will be making them on Tuesday. On Thursday we will be looking at Flowcharts and how they are used.

    - I know who my team members are 

    - I can work in a team to complete the given recipe successfully

    - I can list the various shapes used for a flow chart 

    - I know the differences between the flowchart shapes

    - I can create a flowchart for making a cup of tea

    - I know why it is important to follow a process when designing a new food product

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 6 of Term 1. 

    On Tuesday we will be making Okonomiyaki Pancakes.

    On Thursday, we will be continuing to complete tasks in the Pancake Journal. Hopefully by now you have interviewed a stakeholder and can write the brief and add your personalised attributes.

    We might even be able to start researching suitable pancake recipes.

    I have added the recipe for the Finnish Pancakes I surprised you with on Thursday last week.

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 7 of Term 1. Mrs Priest is sick this week, so on Tuesday you will be conducting a mood board (image research and collection) and a recipe research for your pancake. On Thursday you will be making either Crepes or Pikelets (very lucky, as usually relief teachers are not allowed to cook however Mrs Williamsen is a Food Tech teacher and has offered!)

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • participated in the practical
    • researched recipes and images that match what my stakeholder has asked for
    • annotated my recipes and images about what I like and what I dislike about them and how it matches the specifications/attributes that my stakeholder has asked for

    Kia ora...and welcome to Week 8 of Term 1.

    On Tuesday I will be checking your prototype recipes and whether you have given me the ingredients you need. I will be reviewing your work in your assessment journal. If we have time, I will explain Task 5 in your assessment journal.

    On Thursday we will be continuing to work on Task 5 of the assessment journal.

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 10 of Term 1.

    On Tuesday you will be recording your stakeholder's feedback and adding your prototype photo in your assessment journal. You will research and plan on how to modify your recipe in order to please your stakeholder even more. Find out where your stakeholder is on Thursday during Session 4.

    On Thursday you will be making the final pancake for your stakeholder.

    Kia ora and welcome to Week 11 of Term 1.
    This week we will be reviewing what you need to look out for in order to get the various grades: At, Above and Beyond.
    The assessment will be due in Week 1 of Term 2.

    We will also be completing a Pancake Review with Booklet. If you want a link to re-do it, please email me.

    The plan for Term 2 is that in Week 1 we have one practical lesson and one theory lesson (you can use to finish off the evaluation). Please remember the evaluation has to be INDIVIDUAL work.

      Kia ora and welcome to Week 5 of Term 2.
      This week, on Tuesday, we are reviewing the answers of last week's worksheet. We are investigating how to keep food safe in the fridge and what food goes where. We will learn about spores and why they are bad in the food. We will watch a video to see if we can identify the mistakes that were made. And we will look at the Food Council ratings of local food businesses.

      On Thursday we will play Food safety Bingo!

      On Tuesday you will have a relief teacher as I will be out on a trip all day. On Thursday we will revise the relief work plus carry on learning about Food Hygiene.

      Kia ora...and welcome to Week 8 of Term 2. Thank you for being flexible last week and having a practical instead of a theory lesson. The recipe for the Jeera Aloo is posted below for your reference.

      This week we will continue learning about Food Safety. We will learn about the difference in Food Hygiene, Kitchen Hygiene and Personal Hygiene and give examples of each.

        1c orange juice, 1c frozen mangoes, 1c yoghurt (I used strawberry) and 1 banana.
