Year 9 Mandarin Assessment Instructions Term 2 2022
Context for this assessment:
At MHJC, we promote diversity and inclusion of multiple cultures and languages. We have been learning greetings and describing ourselves and others in Mandarin. For the purpose of this assessment, you will demonstrate your communication skills through making a speech in Mandarin or writing a Chinese essay.
Assessment Instructions
For Students whose native language is not Chinese
You will record an original speech on any topic of your choice.
Requirements
The speech should be a minimum of one minute long in a video.
You must be the speaker in the video. Voiceover features are not allowed .
Only Chinese language is to be spoken in the video with occasional unavoidable English words, such as names.
Include at least three language features in your video, especially the ones we have learnt so far, such as expressing your likes and dislikes. Resources can be found on MHOL.
The script of your speech must contain Chinese characters, with Chinese pinyin and its meaning in English.
Submit your script of the speech and your video on MHOL by 23:59 on Friday, 3 June 2022.
For Students whose native language is Chinese
For the purpose of this assessment you will write a Chinese essay on any topic of your choice.
Requirements
The essay should contain 100 - 1500 Chinese characters. Chinese pinyin is not required.
Your essay must be your original work.
Submit your essay on MHOL by 23:59 on Friday, 3 June 2022.

Y9 Mandarin assessment T4 - Picture book
We are reconnecting with our sister school after lockdown. Create a picture book in Mandarin to introduce MHJC to our sister school, Jinling High School.
1. Your picture book could be either digitally made or hand drawn.
2. It must be a minimum of 10 pages with at least 100 Chinese words in total.
3. Each page must feature a picture and a simple sentence in Mandarin (characters and pinyin) and English to accompany that picture.
4. All the images and sentences need to be culturally appropriate.
5. You must submit your work by the due date, Friday, 11 November 2022.
