Welcome to Fashion and Design 2022.

I am looking forward to working with you to develop your design and practical skills.
All Learning Intentions, Success Criteria and Activity instructions will be on MHO.
Activities will be on GC.
Learning will be recorded in online workbooks/ journals.
Week 2 & 3 Learning Intentions
We are learning
The parts of the sewing machine
The names and uses of basic sewing tools
How to fill a bobbin, thread the machine and insert the bobbin case
Hand sewing basics - threading a needle, knots, hem stitch and tacking
Sewing machine basics - plain seam, straight stitch, zig zag, reversing, pivoting.
We are learning all the above so that we have the basic skills to start practical work.
I can name the parts of the sewing machine
I can identify basic tools and know what they are used for.
I can fill a bobbin, thread the machine and insert the bobbin case
I can do the following Hand sewing basics - threading a needle, knots, hem stitch and tacking, sew on a button.
I can use the sewing machine and do these basics - plain seam, straight stitch, zig zag, reversing, pivoting.
I can do all the above so that I have the basic skills to start practical work.

Practical work due:
Demonstrate your use of the Sewing Machine - sewing on the lines and test - hand in.

We are still EXPLORING /working on completing these Learning Intentions back in Week 2.
Practical work due:

Next project will be design and make a personalised Tote Bag.
ASSESSMENT 1 - see task and rubric on GC and below.
Start your research for this and plan out what you are going to do. This is your draft - check with the teacher that you are on the right track. Upload your plan in the checklist slot on GC. Final Assessment due Term 2 Week 1.

Threading the Machine - top and bottom
Plain seam.
Reverse stitch
Zig Zag
Seam Neatening - straight stitch and zig zag
Make a pin cushion and phone plop.
Homework/ In class time when not sewing - you are to work on your Assessment 1. Remember you need to fill in the checkpoint doc before you start so that I know you are on the right track.
Assessment will be due Term 2 Week 2 - date to be negiotated with class on your return.

I have spent some time exploring different fabric decorating methods.
I have chosen 1-2 fabric decoration methods that i might use on my tote bagI have gathered stakeholder feedback from my classmares and self and the results of my PMI and used all this to help me with my design ideas
I have developed 2 design ideas and gathered feedback from stakeholders
Activities:
1. Played/expermented with different fabric decoration methods.
2. Gathered stakeholder feedback
3. Developed 2 designs - gathered feedback- make a decision on which one or bits of both is ok (develop a 3rd design)

Success Criteria:
I can/have planned out how I will make my bag - transferring/applying design and sewing the bag
I can/have identified the Key Stages I will follow to make my bag and have filled in the planning table.
I can/have constructed/made my bag by following the steps in the TOTE BAG CHALLENGE step by step guide to making a tote bag.
Activities:
1. Transfer design idea onto fabric. Apply design using the chosen Fabric Decoration method that you trialled.
2. Construct your bag following the instructions in the step by step guide to making a TOTE BAG on GC
3. Complete your planning table in the Journal document. Remember that the table (No 7) is what you are getting assessed on.
4. Check that your Assessment Doc is fully completed. Your answers should be in a different colour.
5. Iron you fabric decoration if you have used paint to heat set it - use blank paper between the iron and paint.
5. Insert an image of your finished bag alongside your Planning table in the doc. Upload by the due date on MHO. Aiming for end of Week 3.

This week is catch up - we have lots of you that are still sewing and some of you have finished your bag.
SO you will be managing self and completing what you need to do.
1. Finish sewing your bag
2. Make sure your assessment was uploaded/ work on resubmission once marked
3. Finish all Google Classroom activities.
4. Complete the activities - Commercial Pattern and how to read a Pattern on Google Classroom.
5. Complete the activity Measure Me on Google Classroom so you know what size pattern to choose/use for your Boxers.

Success Criteria:
I can/have completed activities on GC that support the making of my boxers.
I can/have practiced new techniques to use these on my boxers.Activities:
1. Complete the activities on GC - Measure Me / Pattern symbols/ how to place the pattern on the fabric/ how to make boxers
2. Practice the new skills/techniques needed to make your boxers before sewing on your boxer materials.
3. Completed the activity on GC - Measure Me so I can choose the correct pattern size for me - place pattern on fabric - get it checked by the teacher and cut out.

Week 1
FOCUS
Success Criteria:
I can/have practiced the techniques needed to place my pattern on my fabric and had it checked by the teacher and then I have cut it out.
I can/have constructed my boxers using the new techniques I have practiced .
Activiites
1. Complete the activities on GC - Measureme Me, Pattern Symbols, Pattern envelope/ How to place your pattern on fabric.
2. Choose your pattern size based on your findings in Measure Me. Prepare your fabric correctly. Place your pattern on the fabric. Get it checked by the teacher and cut it out.
3. Read the instructions how to make PJ Boxers on GC.
4. Construct your boxers:
First Step: Sew curved front and back seams - using a Plain seam with a 1.5cm wide seam allowance. Sew a second row of stitching 2 mm inside of the first row. Trim seam allowance back to 5mm and zag zag edges together. Press both seams flat.
Second Step: Pin your side seams together - back to front - starting at the top. Show the teacher in case we need to trim anything off. Sew your side seams together 1.5cm - trim back to 5mm zig zag the edges together.
Thirsd Step: Pin crotch seams together - sew a plain seam 1.5cm - trim seam allowance back to 5mm - zig zag edges togther. Press under 5mm and fold up evenly to make a hem . Press. Stitch.
OR
Forth Step: Iron under top edge of waist 5mm. Fold over to make a casing - must be wider than the elastic. Pin in place - show the teacher. Sew from one side seam around to the top finish 2cm from where you started. Reversing at both the start and finish. You should have a gap /hole to thread through the elastic.
