    Welcome back to 2022!

    I will be your teacher this year.

    Expectations in my class are:

    • Bring P.E. Gear to all P.E. sessions, (bring other sports wear if its in wash, or cant find)
    • Hat for outside
    • Effort, Participation and a Positive Attitude are required
    • Bring a note justifying why you cant do P.E. - please make sure it is a real reason
    • Health will be on a Monday

    For the first few weeks we will be focusing on developing our communication and leadership skills through ABL (Adventure Based Learning) Activities.

    Making sure we understand how to read it.  And making sure that we understand that looking after our friends and partners is extremely important.

    2.  Health - Finishing Puberty and Sex. Ed - Final questions from question box.
      Beginning to look at Alcohol, what is it and how it works.  Looking at what a drug/substance is, discussion addiction and types of drugs:
      Class system - higher the class the more addictive and dangerous it is.  
      Type of drug - Hallucinogen, stimulant, depressant, opioid - and what these mean and do to your body
      Where does alcohol fit. - Looking at culture in NZ - Binge drinking, 18th/21st birthday.  Compare to other countries and alcohol regulations

    Activities:

    1. P.E. - For those confident - using a net - friendly games, practicing set, sig and underarm serves.  If not confident - practicing without net - keeping in the air using digs and sets. 
    2.  Health - Alcohol - Ethanol, examining standard drinks, percentages, How many standard drinks the body can handle, process.
      looking at different types of alcohol - beer/cider, wines, spirits, RTD's.
      Looking at how different alcohols are marketed to different atrget markets:
      Beer - brown vs green, worker class vs professional.  RTDs - youth - bright, sugary, sweet, easy to drink , cheap.  Older - classy bottles, refined flavours, expensive...  All the same product
      What is binge drinking - NZ Culture.

    Activities:

    1. P.E. - Playing a competitive game with friends - getting a rally going.  Using all shots - Serve, dig, set.
    2.  Health - Factors that influence alcohol effects: - Gender, age, weight, fitness, tolerance/experience, food, 
    3. Examining immediate effects of drinking.  
      0-2 Drinks - Increase in confidence, relaxing, often can become more extroverted - louder, social.  Still able to make decisions, consent possible, could drive dependant on above features
      3-5 Drinks - become tipsy, reaction times slowed, no driving, cant give consent, possibility of hangover, 
      6-10 Drinks - Drunk, Slurring, stumbling, poor decision making skills, risk of vomiting, passing out, hangover, regretting decisions, aggression, highly emotional, 
      10+ - Risk of alcohol poisoning, death, risk to others, need to be looked after, no memory of what has happened

    Work on your alcohol research for your pamphlet.
