  • Term One Week Two

    Kia ora Year 10 Music

    I hope you enjoy this year as you learn a range of musical skills and styles and continue to develop your work on an instrument.

    This year we will be covering a range of topics - from music history (including NZ Music in May for New Zealand Music Month), music theory, performance and more.

    In Term One we will start by revising some key musical elements that we must be very familiar with - that being beat/rhythm/tempo and pitch. After that, we will begin studying a style of music that has influenced a lot of what you hear today - the Blues.

    Mr Picot will continue teaching group instrument lessons this year but it will now happen during class time. After you have selected your instrument to develop this term, you will be sent the timetable for your lessons.


    Activities

    From this week we will start working on some performance skills leading up to our focus for next term which is, unsurprisingly, performances.

    You will work on these skills through learning and playing a Blues song and presenting them to your peers.

    • Written original lyrics for a 12 Bar Blues chord progression
    • Begun to play/sing your song from beginning to end

    Kia ora Year 10s and welcome to Term Two

    This term, you are officially starting the process of performing live to audiences within (or outside) our school. This will be your first assessment.

    This week, you will begin by finding the music and the resources that you need to start the practice and rehearsal process. You might try learn a bit of a piece to gauge whether or not it's the right difficulty in consultation with Mr Bartlett and Mr Picot.

    Success Criteria: I can/have...

    • Identified two pieces of music to play live, and shared these with Mr Bartlett and Mr Picot
    • Obtained learning material and resources to learn the music

    This week, you will practice the music as individuals. You should try to get the opening part of your music down.

    • Play through the opening section of your music with reasonable accuracy
    • Identified the instrument-specific techniques you need to work on to perform the piece

    Activities:

    • Listening to a recording of your piece to identify the techniques required and difficult sections
    • Practice time - learning the opening section of your piece

  • Term Two Week Four

    • Upskilling in music technology - using BandLab (or another DAW) - refer to the Technology resources in the Google Site we have been using this term
    • Begin planning for a performance in Term Four - Santa Show, Māori and Pasifika Evening, End of Year performances


    FOR THOSE THAT STILL NEED TO PERFORM:

    • You will spend your time in class working towards these. If you have arranged to perform outside of class, you need to confirm this with me with the date, time and location.
    • If you plan on performing to the class, these will begin in week 8 and roll over to week 9.
